Full-Time Facilities Maintenance Technician
Job Description
San Diego Humane Society is hiring a Full-Time Facilities Maintenance Technician! This position is based on our San Diego Campus, but will travel to our other campuses frequently.
In this role, you’ll be responsible for providing maintenance, repair and some janitorial work for all San Diego Humane Society facilities. You’ll also perform skilled and semi-skilled tasks in the maintenance, repair, and upkeep of facilities, equipment, and furnishings. Responsibilities:
- Perform preventative maintenance throughout the facility and on the equipment.
- Maintain, install, and repair plumbing systems throughout the facility. Janitorial work as needed.
- Repair roof and replace floor and ceiling tiles as needed.
- Maintain the interior and exterior walls and surfaces by painting, plastering, and/or general repairing.
- Ensures proper working condition of doors and windows replace or repair as necessary.
- Perform carpentry and other construction work in remodeling.
- Respond to maintenance emergencies.
- Wash and maintain facility vehicle (manage fleet wash with volunteers)
- Move furniture.
- Assist with project specifications, reading blueprints and diagrams.
- Inspects building, facilities, and equipment to ascertain needed repairs, make or recommend repairs or alterations as needed.
- Ensure a clean, safe, hazard-free work environment within scope of responsibility.
- Perform all other related and compatible duties as assigned as carpentry, landscaping, minor and major repairs, as well as research and purchase materials to complete work orders as needed.
- Arrange for service with HVAC, plumbing, electrical and other vendor specialties when appropriate
- Contact vendors for bids as requested by supervisor
- Willingly assist the public and other staff in all shelter programs and special events.
- Consistently work with co-workers and the public in a courteous and professional manner.
- Be prepared to share information to strengthen awareness of animal welfare issues and the society’s mission.
- Regularly and predictably attend work in-person as scheduled.
- Wears appropriate, clean uniform and name tag at all times during business hours.
- Understand how to utilize email and software programs or demonstrate the ability to learn through past experience.
Minimum Qualifications:
- High School Diploma or equivalent
- Five or more years paid experience in maintenance work
- Experience working with heating, air-conditioning, electrical, plumbing, carpentry, and/or related building trades
- Knowledge and proper use of hand and power tools related to job functions.
- Valid CA Driver’s License
- Good verbal and interpersonal communication skills and the ability to work in a flexible environment.
Salary:
This is a non-exempt position that starts at a rate of $16.91 per hour. Salary will be commensurate with experience.
