ABOUT THE LOS ANGELES LGBTQ CHAMBER OF COMMERCE
Los Angeles LGBTQ Chamber of Commerce (LAGLCC) is a 501(c)(6) organization of gay, lesbian, bisexual, transgender and gay-allied businesses, professionals, and individuals, who have joined together to effect positive growth in ourselves, our work, our community and our future. By providing visibility, advocacy, and business development opportunities for the LGBTQ+ and allied business community, we are building a network committed to supporting one another and building trusting relationships in the community. LAGLCC members live and work throughout the greater Los Angeles area – The San Fernando and San Gabriel Valleys, West Hollywood, the Westside and Santa Monica, Glendale, Pasadena, Silver Lake, Downtown, and many other neighborhoods. And, we continue to grow to meet the changing needs of our membership, and to showcase bright successful LGBTQ+ professionals as exemplary citizens and role models for a budding generation.
ABOUT THE POSITION
The Executive Director is responsible for assisting in the development of policy, implementing policy, and recommending action to the Board of Directors for the continued success of LAGLCC. The Executive Director is responsible for overseeing the coordination of the existing operations of the Chamber. The Executive Director develops, promotes, and plans events and functions, communicates effectively with the membership on needs, ideas, and opportunities, and develops and implements an annual budget and organizational plan that advances the general welfare and prosperity of LAGLCC and its constituents.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
Leadership & Strategy
- Works with the Board of Directors to devise, drive and implement the strategic plan and annual program of work to advance the Chamber’s mission. Annual program of work includes event goals and dates, membership targets, an overall communications and advertising calendar, and an annual budget.
- Utilize Bylaws, precedence and evaluations as planning and implementation tools.
- Ensure that the Chamber policies, as established by the Board, are properly kept up to date and implemented, and assist the Board, necessary committees and staff in interpretation of policy in relation to any given question or program.
- Supervise all personnel including the assignment of their duties and oversight of their work, within the framework of the approved budget and the terms of employment.
- Create an environment that recruits, retains, and supports quality staff and volunteers, cultivating a culture of professional growth and leadership building.
- Operate the Chamber in accordance with the Bylaws, existing procedures, California state laws, and Federal laws as a proper 501c6 organization.
Operations & Finance
- Oversee all Chamber operations, events and all other operational functions – ensuring professional and welcoming physical and virtual spaces.
- Work with the board to formulate the board’s budget.
- Prepare financial guidelines for events held by the Chamber and ensure events follow budgetary guidelines to meet goals of each event.
- Oversee the collection of all membership dues, sponsorships, grants and any other funds collected by LAGLCC.
- Ensure all checks and monies received by LAGLCC will be properly documented, communicated to the Chamber’s bookkeeper, entered into Chamber Master and deposited into LAGLCC’s bank account within 2 banking days.
Board Relations
- Fosters effective teamwork with the Board of Directors, and between Board and staff.
- Empower and support the Board of Directors to fulfill its governance functions and participation, building and maintaining strong relationships and communications with the Board.
- Provide necessary leadership to garner full engagement of Board members.
- Plan and organize committee and Board meetings and coordinate informational packets and agendas for these meetings.
Member Relations & Events
- Develop plan for the procurement and retention of current and future membership prospects.
- Keep consistent, strong lines of communication open between all parties, with a special emphasis on member input and feedback, congenial and timely interactions, and community related groups and individuals.
- Facilitate, oversee, and implement an annual membership campaign, member engagement and new member welcomes as necessary.
- Analyze and interpret the needs of members and recommend revisions to increase membership value, engagement and financial support.
- Notify membership of co-op advertising and outreach promotional opportunities.
- Oversee the Chamber Directory and coordinate the advertising sales associated with it.
- Plan and coordinate all monthly Chamber mixers and luncheons.
- Present event opportunities to the Board and oversee all event preparation, utilizing both staff and volunteers to carry out event objectives. Each new and existing event must include a budget and receive approval from the Board.
- Secure community support as well as sponsorship for events as needed.
External Relations & Public Policy
- Serve as the chief spokesperson for the organization, responsible for the overall reputation of the Chamber.
- Create advertising and marketing materials as necessary to increase membership and sponsorship opportunities.
- Prepare, execute and track the annual Chamber communications and advertising.
- Represents the Chamber at local, regional, state, and national meetings and conventions to foster the betterment of the Chamber’s mission.
- Attend meetings of groups of organizations that share common priorities including, but not limited to, Los Angeles County, Supplier Diversity Events, LGBTQ+ Events, other Chamber of Commerce’s, and other businesses and organizations that impact the constituents of the Los Angeles LGBTQ Chamber of Commerce.
- Represent the Chamber at the annual Western Business Alliance and National LGBT Chamber of Commerce Events.
- Be informed on local, state, and federal issues and actions by agencies that may affect the membership or community and make recommendations to the Board on possible action on these issues.
- Build and maintain positive relationships with media outlets in the Los Angeles Area and utilize every opportunity presented to further the mission of the Chamber.
- Grant writing may also be necessary for new or existing events in the future.
QUALIFICATIONS
- Bachelor’s degree in business, communications, public administration, or similar area preferred.
- A minimum of 5 years of executive experience within a private business, trade association, economic development and/or related public sector employment, and not-for-profit organizations.
- Knowledge of marketing, communications, and public relations, and business management theories, practices and procedures.
- Ability to make accurate projections and develop tracking mechanisms to monitor, analyze and develop financial reports.
- Proven to be highly motivated, self-directed, results-oriented, and energized in a fast paced, multi-tasked environment.
- Experience in supervising a small paid staff with proven ability to recruit, develop, coach, motivate, and empower staff to accomplish goals and objectives.
- Extensive knowledge of information technology as applied to small business operations and external communications.
- Vision for long-range planning while focusing on the day-to-day needs of the organization.
- Demonstrated ability to successfully work within complex political environments with a strong understanding of advocacy, coalition building, and the legislative process.
- Knowledge of industry acumen, entrepreneurship, and innovation.
COMPENSATION AND BENEFITS
Salary range for this position is $70,000-$85,000 depending on qualifications and experience. Los Angeles LGBTQ Chamber of Commerce offers performance based bonus structure and a benefits package including vacation and sick time, paid holidays, and medical stipend. This is a remote position based in Los Angeles, California.
