Job Description
We are in search of a dynamic leader who will take the Sexual Assault Resource Agency, celebrating its 40th year, to the next level of success.
The mission of the Sexual Assault Resource Agency (SARA) is to eliminate sexual violence and its impact by providing education, advocacy, and support to men, women, children, and non-binary people. Our vision is a community free from sexual violence.
We are located in Charlottesville, Virginia, and serve residents of Charlottesville, Albemarle, Nelson, Louisa, Fluvanna, and Greene. We serve anyone who has personally experienced, or cares for someone who has experienced, any kind of sexual violence, including rape, sexual assault, sexual abuse, sexual molestation, incest, sex trafficking, stalking, sexual harassment, or unwanted touching.
The Executive Director will oversee the direction, daily operation, and administration of SARA’s programs, services, staff, and volunteers to fulfill the agency mission to end sexual violence. The Executive Director will be accountable for the financial health of SARA and responsible for promoting the agency to build its financial reserves and goodwill.
The ideal candidate will have fundraising experience and will be comfortable acting as the public face of SARA. Management experience is essential, preferably with a nonprofit organization.
The Executive Director must demonstrate understanding and value of racial equity, intersectionality, and social justice as organizational operating principles and show commitment to continued learning on issues related to race, equity, diversity, and inclusion.
- Initiates, develops, and maintains relationships with individuals and organizations that can provide funding to the agency, with a focus on private philanthropy
- Manages SARA directors in planning services and programs, setting goals, prioritizing, and high-level problem-solving
- Actively pursues the development and maintenance of sound relationships between SARA and the community
- Evaluates the efficacy of SARA’s programs and services on an ongoing basis
- Seeks out new grants and other financial support
- Ensures compliance with requirements of contracts and grants
- Delegates and oversees grant application process and report writing
- Participates with partner agencies, the private sector, and local, regional, and statewide committees in addressing sexual assault issues
- Collaborates with Board of Directors on strategic planning
Minimum Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Social Services, Public Administration, or other related fields or equivalent combination of education and experience. Advanced degree preferred.
- 3 or more years in a non-profit leadership role.
- Experience in or knowledge of sexual assault issues and a commitment to SARA’s mission and program goals.
- Experience in fundraising and grant writing.
- Experience in personnel and fiscal management.
- Experience in community organization and public administration.
- Skilled in group development, communication, and public relations.
