Salary – £30,684 to £36,671
Fully site based
Permanent and Full Time (37 hours per week – you will also be on the on-call rota)

UKCEH is looking for an experienced Estates Maintenance Officer to join our 600-strong team, contributing to scientific discovery and generating the data, insights and solutions that researchers, businesses and governments need to solve complex environmental challenges.

Working alongside the Senior Maintenance Officer, you will be helping to look after the facilities of this exciting building, which is home to environmental scientists and professional services teams. As a vital point of contact for contractors, and to manage their visits to site, you’ll need excellent communication skills, as well as being helpful, proactive and solution focused.
This opportunity would suit someone with good, practical multi-trade skills, who enjoys variety and keen to take on responsibility as their experience grows. Confident IT skills are an essential part of this role. You’ll be responding to computer helpdesk requests, providing a proactive approach to maintenance and repair of a wide range of site plant and equipment, including coordinating servicing and inspections.

Your main responsibilities will include:
- Contractor Management – including induction, health & safety, supervision and compliance
- Maintenance and planned preventative maintenance of the building and a wide range of site plant and equipment
- Carrying out repairs, engineering tasks and maintenance requests generated from the Helpdesk
- Statutory and regulatory compliance checks, identifying/actioning non-compliances
- Accurate record keeping and asset management
- Supporting the Workplace Manager
For the role of Estates Maintenance Officer, we are looking for somebody who has:
- Intermediate skills in Microsoft Office 365, especially Excel, Teams and Outlook
- Experience in building services maintenance / facilities services
- An understanding and awareness of building services compliance requirements
- Hands on skills to carry out small repairs
- Technical awareness for faults finding
- Good time management skills, able to reprioritise tasks in a busy and changing environment
- Good working knowledge of building health & safety requirements
- Good attention to detail and understands the importance of accurate record keeping
- A confident communication style and can support a continuous improvement approach
Desirable Skills (full training will be given):
- Awareness of specialist waste disposal, waste electrical and electronic recycling (WEEE)
- Awareness on the control of substances hazardous to health (COSHH)
- L8 awareness
- Asbestos awareness
- First Aid at Work Certified
