Job description

Corporate Services offers a challenging and stimulating variety of work in both delivery and support teams. The function utilises the expertise of eight specialisms that collectively enable the operational day-to-day running of the business to ensure that DE&S/SDA delivers its objectives and maintains compliance with the requirements of being part of a Department of State. We cover: Business Support; Comms, Media & Marketing; Infrastructure & Estate Management; Policy Profession; Sales & Disposals; Occupational Health, Safety & Environment; Quality Management; and Security.

We are looking for a technical professional to act as a corporate policy lead within DE&S’ Chief Environment and Safety Office (CESO) at Abbey Wood, Bristol.

To be successful in this role, you will:
• Be forward-thinking and a good communicator who is able to work with a variety of stakeholders from different areas and levels of the business.
• Be able to present well in person as you’ll be a representative of DE&S.
• Be able to demonstrate a strong understanding of the key elements of corporate environmental management with the ability to advise, plan and promote improvement in line with global, UK and MoD expectations.

Responsibilities

You will be responsible to;

• Embed the DE&S Environmental Strategy across all areas of business and deliver against each of the key goals.
• Lead the effective application of statutory compliance by implementing and maintaining bespoke corporate policy and guidance.
• Promote a single way of working to underpin the cohesive and coherent delivery of environmental management across all areas of DE&S’ responsibilities.
• Build and exploit constructive relationships with key internal and external Stakeholders.
• Embed good behaviours and initiate activity to enhance DE&S’ environmental culture and champion continuous improvement.
• Conduct assurance activities to monitor corporate performance; initiate solutions to address deltas and collaboratively work with the relevant business areas to deliver improved performance.

This position needs someone who is pro-active, a self-starter and eager to take ownership of the role.
You need to be highly skilled in verbal communication and have excellent written skills, with this demonstrated throughout your CV.

What you will be assessed against
To be found successful you must demonstrate the following essential criteria:
• A relevant qualification, such as the NEBOSH Environmental Diploma (or an equivalent which is commensurate to or above level 5/6.)
