Job Description

Clark College is currently accepting applications for a full-time, exempt Environmental Health and Safety Manager. This position reports to the Director of Risk Management and is responsible for directing, developing, planning and managing the Environmental Health and Safety program.

Job Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Direct and/or conduct the regular inspections throughout college facilities to verify compliance with environmental health and safety regulations.
  • Manage and oversee Environmental Health and Safety programs including Chemical Hygiene, Accident Prevention, Confined Space, Lock-Out/Tag-Out, Hearing Conservation, Respiratory Protection, Spill Prevention, Emergency Response, Fall Protection and Electrical Safety.
  • Direct or prepare required regulatory compliance reporting with applicable agencies, to include Department of Ecology, Labor and Industry, OSHA/WISHA, and other relevant reporting agencies.
  • Direct and supervise one Environmental Health and Safety Specialist and multiple student employees that support Environmental Health and Safety programs, including college sustainability.
  • Manage Incident Reporting and Labor and Industry Worker’s Compensation claims, including reviewing and processing incident reports and claims, ensuring program conformance with applicable laws and regulations, preparing or directing required records management, and monitoring and evaluating the program for improved efficiencies, accident prevention and insurance cost savings.
  • Manage the Modified Duty and Return to Work Program, accident logs, OSHA 300 preparation and other relevant reports.
  • Conduct or support supervisors in conducting incident investigations. Utilize and promote root cause analysis; determine whether current standards and procedures are adequate to prevent a recurrence; develop recommendations for internal procedures based on findings.
  • Direct the handling and disposal of all hazardous materials through technical guidance, to include the minimization of hazardous materials and waste. Interpret and advise on basic operating procedures with faculty and staff; recommend courses of action related to programming or technical and regulatory issues.
  • Ensure the maintenance of college hazardous materials inventory and Safety Data Sheets.
  • Direct the development of Environmental Health and Safety policies. Support supervisors to ensure compliance.
  • Direct and/or conduct regulatory required environmental health and safety training; develop and revise online and classroom training content, market appropriate materials describing and promoting programs, oversee training evaluation and continuous improvement process.
  • Participate and/or chair the college’s Safety Committee.
  • Serve as an active member of the Emergency Management Planning Committee to develop, respond, and maintain emergency management efforts. Maintain a collaborative and resource sharing practice between Environmental Health and Safety and Emergency Management.
  • Serve as an active member on the College Sustainability Committee.
  • Develop and monitor program budgets and approve expenditures.
  • Create a safe, bias-free working environment, which engenders respect for differences.
  • Provide leadership in accordance with the Vision, Values, and Core themes established by the college to achieve mission fulfillment.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.

 

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree AND four years’ work experience in a safety, health and/or environmental regulatory capacity in a complex organization OR equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of OSHA and WISHA regulations.
  • Demonstrated ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with colleagues.
  • Ability to work well with people of all ages from academically, culturally, and socioeconomically diverse backgrounds.

 

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in environmental health, environmental science, or closely related science or safety field.
  • Supervisory experience.

 

Salary Statement: $59,712 annually.
