University Prep is seeking a talented, engaging and compassionate Entrepreneurship Intensive Teacher to help us advance our vision of being an inclusive community of learners that provides an outstanding education for each individual in a diverse student population. We need a leader who understands best practices in teaching entrepreneurship and who is passionate about teaching to high school students and enhancing student life. What Intensives Are:
Intensives are three-week academic terms that take place in January and May, during which each student takes one class full-time. Intensive classes earn equal credit as semester classes, and intensive courses may be required or elective.
Job Summary:
Under minimal supervision, on a full-time basis, co-teaches the January Entrepreneurship Intensive class, including lesson planning, delivery of instruction, and assessment. This class may take place on campus, online, or a mixture of both, depending on circumstances at the time.
Specific Responsibilities:
- Co-teaches the class with two UPrep faculty members who design the curriculum
- Provides classroom instruction and management
- Facilitates community connections for the class, such as guest speakers and project opportunities
- Assesses the effectiveness of instruction and adjusts accordingly
- Collaborates with colleagues, students, parents and administrators
- Actively participates in the life of the school
- Is familiar with and complies with all policies and regulations as put forth in the school’s documents
- Establishes and cultivates community relations by maintaining open dialogue with all of the school’s constituencies
- Vigorously engages in his/her own professional development
- Since safety and security are everyone’s responsibility, takes all necessary and reasonable precautions to protect students, faculty, staff, equipment, materials and facilities
- Performs other duties as assigned
Required Education & Experience:
- Bachelor’s degree from a four-year college or university in the subject of instruction or a related subject
- Experience teaching at the grade level or working with high school students
Preferred Qualifications
- 2+ years’ teaching experience, preferably in an intensive context
- An advanced degree in education, business, entrepreneurship or equivalent experience
- Experience with teaching online and technology in the classroom
- Experience with being part of a curricular and co-curricular team
- Outdoor, travel and/or coaching experience at any level
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- Flexibility, energy, enthusiasm and adaptability to meet the needs of the students and program
- Experience with experiential and/or place-based education design
- Commitment to teaching the whole child
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Understanding of the developmental needs of high school students
- Ability to work with students from diverse backgrounds
- Ability to organized and present curriculum with passion and creativity
- Ability to differentiate instruction with a keen sense of teaching to the needs of the students in the room
- Ability to prepare lessons to appeal to a variety of learning styles, needs and accommodations
- Ability to use formative assessments and strategies in the classroom
- Deep interest in being part of a community as a collaborator and team member
- Energy and enthusiasm for collaborative work
- A desire for a strong community with experienced colleagues
- Flexibility, maturity and a sense of humor
- Ability to maintain confidential information
- Ability to work efficiently in a Microsoft Windows or Mac environment using Office and Google Drive, master common automated systems for record keeping, and learn new technology
- Comfort with operating Audio/Visual equipment
- Ability to work and communicate well with all levels of faculty and staff
- Ability to work and communicate well with students and their parents
