Full-Time Engineering Technician – Project Inspector – Entry Level!
Job Description
- Support senior technicians and engineers in the administration of construction contracts.
- Monitor contractors’ daily operations to ensure compliance with contracts, plans, and specifications.
- Observe and document contractor operations.
- Make measurements and calculations of pay quantities.
- Perform standardized material sampling and testing.
- Work as part of a larger team of NCDOT employees and consultant inspectors.
- Ensure compliance with NCDOT and external environmental agency erosion control and permit requirements.
- Obtain and maintain certifications required to perform material sampling and testing.
- Safely operate a state-owned vehicle.
- Experience working in a team environment to complete assignments.
- Customer service experience related to solving problems involving explaining complicated engineering concepts to customer groups.
- Computer experience in Microsoft Office software and drafting software.
- Experience applying engineering concepts to solve complex problems.
- Experience planning, developing, scheduling, tracking, and completing projects independently or with limited supervision.
- Communications skills to communicate effectively with coworkers, contractors, and the public.
- Ability to apply math, such as basic algebra, geometry, and trigonometry.
- Close visual acuity to use testing equipment, read plan details, make accurate field measurements, and inspect roadway and structure components.
- Ability to exercise limited decision making and judgement and apply NCDOT safety standards and program to operations.
- Safety toe shoes.
- Associate’s degree in Civil Engineering Technology, Survey Technology, or a related curriculum; or
- An equivalent combination of training and experience.
- You may be exposed to hazards, including construction equipment, high traffic volumes, and heights over water or traffic.
- You will be expected to work outside in varying temperatures and weather conditions and may need to work nights, weekends, and holidays as required.
- You will be expected to perform moderate physical activity such as standing, walking, climbing, and kneeling and lift up to 50 pounds.
