Full-Time Engineering Technician III – Project Inspector
Job Description
- Support senior engineers running large highway construction projects.
- Monitor daily project progress, including project diaries and correspondence with contractors.
- Resolve constructability issues to maintain project schedules.
- Direct and schedule technicians staking out and inspecting every project phase to ensure it is built according to plans and specifications in a timely and cost-effective manner.
- Perform office and field duties.
- Manage all aspects of assigned construction projects with limited supervision from senior engineers.
- Supervise and train multiple technicians, including NCDOT staff and contract construction inspectors.
- Experience analyzing and interpreting highway construction plans and applying engineering concepts to solve complex problems.
- Experience planning, developing, scheduling, tracking, and completing projects independently or with limited supervision.
- Customer service experience related to solving problems involving explaining complicated engineering concepts to customer groups.
- You work best in a team environment.
- Ability to safely operate a motor vehicle.
- Good note taking skills.
- Good communication skills.
- Ability to supervise activities of junior staff and instruct them in proper work methods.
- Safety toe shoes.
- Associate’s degree in Engineering Technology, Survey Technology or a related field, and
- 3+ years of relevant technician experience; or
- An equivalent combination of education and experience.
- You must be able to obtain and maintain certifications required to perform material sampling and testing.
- You will be on call 24X7 and may be required to work nights, weekends, holidays and extended hours as necessary.
- You may be subject to hazards, such as rough/uneven terrain and work in bad weather conditions including heat and cold.
