New Higher Salary: $41,429 – $72,500
 
The Challenge
We are looking for an experienced Engineering Technician to join our District 2 team.
 
In this role, you will:
    • Coordinate reviews of technical plans and drawings relating to driveway permit applications, utility encroachment requests, subdivision design standards, and road addition packages.
    • Apply a strong safety philosophy and program to all operations.
What You Bring
    • Knowledge of the principals and practices of Civil Engineering, surveying, and highway maintenance methods, techniques, and the use/operation of field and office engineering instruments.
    • Experience conducting independent, moderately-complex inspections with limited supervision.
    • Skills in evaluating and applying engineering judgment to construction plans, contract provisions, and inspection procedures.
    • Experience maintaining neat, legible, and accurate records and reports.
    • Computer skills using laptop/iPad, ability to use engineering testing equipment, and performing data entry.
    • Demonstrated ability to lead co-workers on assigned tasks.
    • Working knowledge and understanding of NCDOT standards, concepts, practices, and theories used in the construction of roads with limited supervision.
    • Ability to document findings and take corrective actions.
    • Ability to clearly and concisely convey information verbally and in writing to individuals/groups.
    • Good listening skills and the ability to respond appropriately to others.
    • Ability to evaluate and apply engineering judgment to plan interpretation.
    • Good communications skills to establish positive communications between technicians, engineers, and contractors.
    • Strength and agility to work and carry equipment on steep and rough terrain.
    • Strength to lift and carry at least 50 pounds.
    • Ability to safely work high above ground and operate a motor vehicle.
    • Excellent record keeping skills.
 
Management Prefers
Candidates with a:
    • Class C Driver’s license.
    • Minimum of five years of progressive highway construction-related technician experience.
Notes
    • This position is  required to work nights and weekends, as needed, for emergency and planned operations in all types of weather conditions and on uneven surfaces.
    • You may be exposed to high traffic volumes, work at heights over water or traffic, and climb on bridge substructures/superstructures.
 
Education & Experience
    • Associate’s degree in Engineering Technology, Survey Technology, or a related field, and
    • 3+ years of relevant experience; or
    • An equivalent combination of training and experience.
