Full-Time Engineering Technician III – NEW HIGHER PAY!
Job Description
- Coordinate reviews of technical plans and drawings relating to driveway permit applications, utility encroachment requests, subdivision design standards, and road addition packages.
- Apply a strong safety philosophy and program to all operations.
- Knowledge of the principals and practices of Civil Engineering, surveying, and highway maintenance methods, techniques, and the use/operation of field and office engineering instruments.
- Experience conducting independent, moderately-complex inspections with limited supervision.
- Skills in evaluating and applying engineering judgment to construction plans, contract provisions, and inspection procedures.
- Experience maintaining neat, legible, and accurate records and reports.
- Computer skills using laptop/iPad, ability to use engineering testing equipment, and performing data entry.
- Demonstrated ability to lead co-workers on assigned tasks.
- Working knowledge and understanding of NCDOT standards, concepts, practices, and theories used in the construction of roads with limited supervision.
- Ability to document findings and take corrective actions.
- Ability to clearly and concisely convey information verbally and in writing to individuals/groups.
- Good listening skills and the ability to respond appropriately to others.
- Ability to evaluate and apply engineering judgment to plan interpretation.
- Good communications skills to establish positive communications between technicians, engineers, and contractors.
- Strength and agility to work and carry equipment on steep and rough terrain.
- Strength to lift and carry at least 50 pounds.
- Ability to safely work high above ground and operate a motor vehicle.
- Excellent record keeping skills.
- Class C Driver’s license.
- Minimum of five years of progressive highway construction-related technician experience.
- This position is required to work nights and weekends, as needed, for emergency and planned operations in all types of weather conditions and on uneven surfaces.
- You may be exposed to high traffic volumes, work at heights over water or traffic, and climb on bridge substructures/superstructures.
- Associate’s degree in Engineering Technology, Survey Technology, or a related field, and
- 3+ years of relevant experience; or
- An equivalent combination of training and experience.
