Full-Time Engineering Technician III
Job Description
- Perform transportation project design and drafting, including drafting, estimates, site plans and contracts, including project special provisions for Central Let, Division Let Projects and Purchase Order Contracts.
- Maintain project records/reports and perform surveying calculations.
- Become familiar with project design and applying appropriate specifications, design manuals, and applicable standards to develop plans.
- Experience applying engineering concepts to solve complex problems.
- Computer experience using Microsoft Office and drafting applications, and in record keeping of field data.
- Strong math knowledge (such as algebra, geometry, and trigonometry).
- Experience reading and interpreting construction plans, contract provisions, specifications, and procedures.
- Experience taking notes, collecting field data, and preparing routine reports.
- Ability to make independent decisions using sound engineering judgment.
- Ability to work in an outside environment with exposure to hazards including heights, highway traffic, and traversing rough terrain in evaluating future highway construction projects.
- You can work nights and weekends, as required, on any assigned project within the Division.
- You can apply a safety philosophy and program to all operations.
- Ability to safely operate a state vehicle.
- Safety toe shoes.
- Communication skills to communicate in a clear, concise manner, verbally and in writing.
- Associate’s degree in Engineering Technology, Survey Technology or a related field, and
- 3+ years of relevant technician experience; or
- An equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Candidates with MicroStation and GeoPak / Open Roads experience.
