Full-Time Engineering Technician III
Job Description
- Maintain transportation project records and reports.
- Perform surveying and inspection calculations.
- Read plans, contract specifications, and applicable standards.
- Perform office assignments, such as checking pay records, haul tickets, force account, contractor’s payroll, materials received, and estimates using a calculator/computer.
- Serve as lead project inspector for larger roadway and larger structure projects.
- Conduct independent inspections on construction operations using plans, contracts, standards, specifications, etc. and material testing devices to ensure compliance with project requirements.
- Supervise and train junior employees.
- Evaluate and apply engineering judgment to construction plans, contract provisions and inspection procedures.
- Experience analyzing and interpreting highway construction plans, and applying engineering concepts to solve complex problems.
- Experience planning, developing, scheduling, tracking, and completing projects independently or with limited supervision.
- Customer service experience solving problems involving explaining complicated engineering concepts to customers.
- You work best in a team environment to complete assignments.
- Ability to perform independent complex inspections, maintain detailed records and perform sampling and testing in accordance with established guidelines.
- Ability to operate survey equipment, computers, and drafting instruments.
- Considerable knowledge of math functions.
- Skills in use of office equipment, calculators, and computers.
- Ability to read, interpret construction plans, contract provisions, specifications and inspection procedures.
- Good communications skills and supervisory abilities.
- Skills to train, coordinate, and supervise employees.
- Ability to work in an outside environment including exposure to hazards on construction sites including heights, highway traffic, lifting heavy objects and traversing rough terrain in evaluation highway construction.
- You can work nights and weekends as required.
- You apply a safety philosophy and program to all operations.
- Ability to safely drive a state vehicle.
- Associate’s degree in Civil Engineering Technology, Survey Technology or assigned discipline, and
- 3+ years of technician experience; or
- An equivalent combination of education and experience.
- You will be subject to highway construction site hazards.
