Full-Time Engineering Technician III
Job Description
- Process and review driveway permits, site plans, utility and non-utility encroachment agreements, subdivision plans, and road additions/abandonments.
- Perform onsite inspections for compliance to NCDOT specifications for driveway permits, encroachments, and subdivisions.
- Lead pre-construction meetings with requesting parties.
- Perform field inspections and prepare deficiency letters relating to road additions, driveway permits, and encroachments.
- Meet with utility representatives, contractors, property owners, and others to discuss adherence to policies and procedures, answer questions, and address complaints from the public by phone, written correspondence, and in person.
- Assist during emergencies and bad weather.
- Assist our District Engineer with tasks.
- Experience planning, developing, scheduling, tracking, and completing projects independently or with limited supervision.
- Customer service experience solving problems involving explaining complicated engineering concepts to customer groups.
- Computer skills using Microsoft Office, drafting applications, laptops, and tablets/iPads. Experience with HiCAMS and SharePoint is preferred.
- Experience applying engineering concepts to solve complex problems.
- Ability to work safely in an outside environment exposed to hazards on construction sites, including heights, highway traffic, and extreme weather.
- Agility to climb and navigate rough terrain.
- Experience working in a team environment to complete assignments.
- Fitness to walk, climb, balance, kneel, and stand.
- Strength to lift 50 pounds.
- Ability to work nights and weekends, as needed, on any project in the Division.
- Safety toe shoes.
- Associate’s degree in Engineering Technology, Survey Technology, or a related field, and
- 3+ years of relevant technician experience; or
- An equivalent combination of education and experience.
