The Challenge
We’re looking for an Experienced Engineering Technician III join our Davie County Engineering Maintenance team.
 
In this role, you will
    • Review and inspect driveway permits, encroachments, subdivisions, and roadway additions/abandonments.
    • Monitor and inspect contractors performing work for NCDOT in the maintenance of guardrail and other traffic barrier systems on the state highway system.
    • Monitor and inspect erosion control measures, and assist highway maintenance crews by providing technical expertise.
    • Generate highway maintenance plans.
    • Communicate with contractors and developers.
    • Coordinate rental and purchase order agreements.
    • Perform highway maintenance activities.
    • Be on-call for emergencies, bad weather, and other necessary work outside of normal hours.
What You Bring
    • Working knowledge of NCDOT standards, specifications, and procedures to ensure compliance when performing inspection duties.
    • Experience planning, developing, scheduling, tracking, and completing projects independently or with limited supervision.
    • Customer service experience solving problems involving explaining complicated engineering concepts to customer groups.
    • Experience applying engineering concepts to solve complex problems.
    • Experience working in a team environment to complete assignments.
    • Computer experience using office and drafting software.
    • Ability to obtain and hold certifications, including NCDOT QMS Roadway technician and NCDOT Erosion Control Level II: Site Manager.
    • Ability to work safely in an outside environment with exposure to hazards including highway traffic, extreme weather, and traversing rough terrain.
    • Fitness to perform moderate physical activity, including walking, climbing, balancing, kneeling, and standing.
    • Strength to lift 50 pounds.
 
Education & Experience
    • Associate’s degree in Civil Engineering Technology, Survey Technology or assigned discipline, and
    • 3+ years of technician experience; or
    • An equivalent combination of education and experience.
