NEW HIGHER SALARY:  $38,516 – $67,404
 
The Challenge
We are looking for an experienced Engineering Technician to join our Forsyth Maintenance team.
 
In this role, you will:
    • Provide technical support to the Forsyth County Maintenance team.
    • Assist in inspections of commercial driveway permits, right-of-way utility encroachments, erosion control, traffic control devices, and roadway construction.
    • Inspect contractor performance, including guardrail repairs, long arm mowing, and roadside mowing.
    • Perform routine inspections on projects to ensure general compliance with plans and specifications and submit required records, reports & diaries within specified timeframes.
 
What You Bring
    • Experience conducting independent, moderately-complex inspections with limited supervision.
    • Experience independently conducting inspections for compliance with contract agreements, standards, and specifications.
    • Experience maintaining neat, legible, and accurate records and reports including computer/iPad data entry.
    • Working knowledge and understanding of NCDOT concepts, practices, and theories used in highway maintenance.
    • Computer skills using standard business/engineering software and basic mathematics.
    • Ability to obtain & keep current QMS Asphalt & Concrete Testing certifications, Roadway Density certifications & Erosion Control certificates Levels II & III.
    • Agility to stand, walk, talk, and hear.
    • Good verbal and written communications skills.
    • Ability to obtain and maintain a valid inmate card.
    • Ability to safely and legally operate a motor vehicle.  
 
Notes
    • You will be subject to inside and outside extreme environmental conditions and hazards at highway construction sites, including ice, snow, difficult terrain, dust, extreme heat and cold, high volumes of traffic, and heavy construction equipment.
    • Safety toe shoes required.
 
Education & Experience
    • Associate’s degree in Civil Engineering Technology, Survey Technology, or a related field, and
    • 2+ years relevant technician-level experience; or
    • An equivalent combination of training and experience.
