NEW HIGHER SALARY: $37,577 – $65,760
 
The Challenge
We are looking for an experienced Engineering Technician to join our Asheboro District team.
In this role you will:
    • Provide technical, supervisory, management, and functional support to our District Engineer and Assistant District Engineers in administering programs of a 3-county district involved in the maintenance of roads, minor improvement projects, and resurfacing projects.
    • Lead encroachment reviews and inspections and driveway permit reviews.
    • Perform contract administration and inspection, survey, design, and develop resurfacing contracts.
    • Serve as a project inspector or assist survey parties.
    • Conduct independent moderate to complex inspection or survey party work for roadway and structure construction process and material to assure compliance with contract agreements, standards, and specifications.
    • Evaluate and apply engineering judgment to plan interpretation.
    • Establish positive communication among technicians, engineers, and contractors.
    • Perform a variety of inspections and survey duties for erosion control, material testing, earthwork, asphalt, structures, and traffic control.
    • Apply safety philosophy and program to all operations.
 
What You Bring
    • Knowledge and understanding of state highway and bridge construction.
    • Skills evaluating and applying engineering judgment to construction plans, contract provisions, and inspection procedures.
    • Computer skills and experience using business and engineering software and mathematical functions.
    • Customer service experience related to resolving problems involving explaining engineering concepts to customer groups.
    • Contract administration experience.
 
Notes
    • You may be exposed to high traffic volumes, work at heights over water or traffic, and climb on bridge substructures and superstructures.
    • You must have the agility to work on traverse rough and steep terrain and strength to carry at least 50 pounds.
    • You may be required to work nights, weekends, and/or holidays.
    • Safety toe shoes required.
Education & Experience
    • Associate’s degree in Civil Engineering Technology, Survey Technology, or a related field, and
    • 2+ years relevant technician-level experience; or
    • An equivalent combination of training and experience.
