Full-Time Engineering Technician II – Field Surveys
Job Description
- Operate field survey equipment performing more complex technical assignments related to highway route location surveys of projects in the field/office.
- Perform complex CADD/computer operations in the surveying and creation of plan sheets and survey data for Transportation Improvement Program (TIP) projects, including hydraulic surveys, complex horizontal alignments, setting photogrammetric controls, property condemnations, and Global Positioning System (GPS) field work.
- Supervise survey team in moderately-complex field operations.
- Experience using CADD and computer equipment in the design of highways (topographic features, hydrographic information, utility locations, property boundaries, elevations etc.), digital terrain model (DTM) files, and preparation of preliminary/final versions of property condemnation maps.
- Experience planning, directing, overseeing, and leading the work of junior technicians in primarily survey field and some office work.
- Experience working with field survey equipment, i.e. total stations, GNSS receivers.
- Experience developing maps/plans using CADD software.
- Knowledge of standards, principles, and practices of surveying in North Carolina.
- Good independent judgment in the application of standard civil engineering practices and procedures.
- Associate’s degree in Civil Engineering Technology, Survey Technology, or a related curriculum, and
- 2+ years technician-level experience; or
- An equivalent combination of education and experience.
