Engineering Technician II
Job Description
- Operate survey equipment performing more complex technical assignments related to highway route location surveys of projects in the field and office.
- Apply your technical skills to conduct complex CADD and computer operations in the surveying and creation of plan sheets and survey data for Transportation Improvement projects (TIP), including hydraulic surveys, complex horizontal alignments, setting photogrammetric controls, property condemnations, and Global Positioning System (GPS) field work.
- Apply independent judgment in the application of standard civil engineering practices and procedures.
- Supervise the survey team in moderately-complex field operations.
- Technical skills to use CADD and computer equipment in the design of highways (topographic features, hydrographic information, utility locations, property boundaries, elevations etc.), digital terrain model (DTM) files, and preparation of preliminary/final versions of property condemnation maps.
- Experience planning, directing, overseeing, and leading lower-level technicians in primarily survey field and some office work.
- Experience working with field survey equipment, i.e. total stations and GNSS receivers.
- Experience developing maps/plans using CADD software.
- Knowledge of standards, principles, and practices of surveying in North Carolina.
- Associate’s degree in Civil Engineering Technology, Survey Technology, or a related field, and
- 2+ years relevant technician-level experience; or
- An equivalent combination of training and experience.
