Engineering Technician I – Entry-Level
Job Description
- Perform moderately-complex technical assignments related to highway route location surveys of projects in the field or office.
- Lead complex survey instrument operations and moderately-complex CADD and computer operations in the surveying and creation of plan sheets and survey data for Transportation Improvement projects (TIP), including hydraulic surveys, complex horizontal alignments, and setting of photogrammetric controls, property condemnations, and Global Positioning System (GPS) field work.
- Apply independent judgment using standard civil engineering practices and procedures.
- Work under the supervision of higher-level technicians/engineers as part of an engineering survey group, but you may also have the opportunity to supervise lower-level technicians.
- Experience using complex surveying instruments and GNSS field equipment.
- Experience creating plan sheets with moderately difficult CADD computer operations.
- Knowledge of standard surveying and civil engineering practices.
- Experience in researching courthouse property data to determine ownership of property along a survey route.
- Experience in leading a small crew to collect DTM data and photogrammetric/topographical features for plan sheet preparation.
- Hours are 8am – 4:30pm Monday-Friday. Flex time and seasonally-variable work hours may be used based on needs and situations.
- Associate’s degree in Civil Engineering Technology, Survey Technology, or a related discipline; or
- An equivalent combination of training and experience.
