Full-Time Engineering Technician I – Bridge Maintenance – Entry Level!
Job Description
- Perform independent inspections of bridge maintenance contract replacement and field maintenance projects to assure compliance with contract provisions and standard specifications for roads and structures.
- Provide technical support for data collections, layout, documentation, and inspections.
- Perform routine math calculations on final estimates.
- Originate and maintain monthly estimates, material received reports, sample cards, density reports, concrete reports, Disadvantaged Business Enterprise (DBE) contractor project-related reports, ticket books, including asphalt reports, core reports from the QA lab and input data into HiCams.
- Work with supplemental agreements and monthly construction meetings, including preparation of agreements/minutes and distribution.
- Order field supplies using our SAP system and complete other SAP duties.
- Input TIMS and prepare road closures.
- Promote a safe working environment and lead by example.
- Serve as a survey crew member.
- Assist with operating and maintaining equipment, stakeout, and plot parameters.
- Perform entry level materials sampling, testing and inspections.
- Operate State vehicle.
- Considerable knowledge/understanding of NCDOT concepts, practices, and theories used in highway construction.
- Experience maintaining detailed records and reports.
- Experience conducting inspections for compliance with contract agreements and specifications.
- Computer skills using a laptop and Microsoft Office and online databases like SAP.
- Math skills in algebra, geometry, and trigonometry.
- Knowledge and understanding of general concepts and practices used in highway construction and design.
- Ability to conduct routine inspections for compliance w/ contract agreements, standards/codes, and specifications.
- Ability to perform land and property searches and plot information.
- Ability to work effectively in extreme weather and terrain conditions.
- Ability to work in close proximity of high volumes of traffic and heavy construction equipment.
- Communications skills to work effectively with co-workers, management, and the public.
- Ability to read and interpret construction plans, contract provisions, specifications, and inspection procedures.
- The ability to work in HiCams with data entry.
- a Driver’s License.
- Safety toe shoes required.
- Associate’s degree in Engineering Technology, Survey Technology, or a related field; or
- An equivalent combination of education and experience.
