Full-Time Engineering Specialist – Project Inspector
Job Description
- Independently conduct moderate to complex inspections, materials sampling/testing, and engineering data analysis to ensure conformance to specifications and contract provisions.
- Supervise and assist in training junior technicians including NCDOT and Construction Engineering and Inspection (CEI) staff.
- Assign daily project inspection duties to junior technicians.
- Monitor contractor progress to ensure timely project completions, monitor contractor compliance with subcontractors and disadvantaged business enterprise (DBE) and Title VI compliance.
- Resolve daily constructability issues on projects and highway construction surveying/layouts.
- Experience applying engineering concepts to solve complex problems.
- Computer skills in Microsoft Office and drafting apps, plus ability to adapt to technology changes.
- Math knowledge of functions such as algebra, geometry, and trigonometry.
- Experience reading/interpreting construction plans, contract provisions, specifications, and procedures.
- Experience in taking notes, collecting field data, and preparing routine reports.
- Good communications skills to establish and maintain effective working relationships with co-workers, contractor’s staff, and the public.
- Ability to work independently to make engineering decisions.
- Safety toe footwear.
- Night, weekend, and holiday work may be required.
- Associate’s degree in Civil Engineering Technology, Survey Technology, or related discipline, and
- 6+ years progressive technician experience; or
- High School/GED Diploma, and
- 8+ years progressive technician experience; or
- An equivalent combination of education and experience.
