Chelco seeks an Engineering Representative
(to work at primarily Eglin AFB)

About Us

CHELCO is a not-for-profit electric distribution cooperative employing more than 160 people and serving more than 56,000 accounts in Walton, Okaloosa, Holmes, and Santa Rosa counties in Florida’s panhandle to include ownership operation and maintenance of the electrical distribution and transmission systems on Eglin AFB. The cooperative owns and maintains 4,680 miles of line of which 30% is underground.

Basic Job Details

You would design high quality, well-integrated, reliable overhead and underground distribution power lines while striving to achieve member/customer satisfaction in this position. Duties include, but aren’t limited to:

  • drawing staking sheets,
  • on-site staking,
  • using the National Electrical Safety Code, and
  • determining transformer and conductor size for services.
Qualifications:

Must be able to obtain approval for access to military installations.

High School diploma or equivalent and seven years of related experience; or completed CHELCO’s Apprentice Engineering Program and all three staking school levels; or completed a CHELCO approved Engineering training program and equivalent staking training.

Although willing to train the right candidate, the ideal applicant will have knowledge of RUS Uniform System of Accounts, RUS specifications, NESC, NEC, OSHA, and local, state, and federal codes. Effective working knowledge of an electrical system and service area. Effective working knowledge of construction standards, rates and service rules and regulations.  Employees hired for Eglin positions may be asked to report to any of CHELCO’s office locations. Valid driver’s license preferred. Knowledge of the following, is also required:

  • Design — knowledge of design techniques, tools, and principles involved in production of precision technical plans, blueprints, drawings, or models.
  • Engineering and technology — knowledge of the practical application of engineering science and technology. This includes applying principles, techniques, procedures, and equipment to the design and production.
  • Computers — knowledge of computer hardware and software, including applications and programming.
  • English language —Ability to converse with internal and/or external customers in English.
  • Clerical — knowledge of administrative and clerical procedures and systems such as word processing, managing files and records, stenography and transcription, designing forms, and other office procedures and terminology.
