Full-Time Engineering Project Manager III
Job Description
- Assist our Division staff by coordinating the planning and design of transportation projects for the Division 1 Project Development Unit in Edenton, NC.
- Lead the procurement of private engineering services, including consultant selection and obtaining notice to proceed.
- Manage the tracking of all aspects of each assigned project from conception to completion, including project feasibility, planning, public involvement, project design, right of way acquisition, environmental issues, budget, and project letting to ensure timely delivery of projects and programs.
- Provide engineering and design guidance and supervision to NCDOT engineering staff and private engineering firms.
- Serve as a liaison between NCDOT and private engineering firms.
- Independently develop reports, records, and forms fand use project tracking/resource management systems.
- Provide regular status reports of projects and funding sources to the Division Project Development Engineer.
- Perform field engineering investigations.
- Supervise, direct, assist, and train junior staff in the performance of duties regarding the coordination of Division-managed projects.
- Experience making recommendations and decisions for simple or complex engineering project development based on reviewing plans for completeness, compliance with engineering principles, standards, and design needs.
- Thorough knowledge and understanding of engineering concepts, practices, and theories used in bridges and roadway project development and construction engineering.
- Experience interpreting and communicating, verbally and in writing, details of plans, project documents, policies, and procedures to convey information to consultants, department staff, and stakeholders.
- Experience leading and maintaining positive working relationships with environmental agencies, public officials, consultants, contractors, and internal staff to find acceptable solutions to infrastructure project challenges.
- Demonstrated ability to scope contract work, estimate, and negotiate with Private Engineering Firms to accomplish appropriate project designs.
- Ability to safely operate a state motor vehicle.
- Bachelor’s degree in engineering, and
- 4+ years of relevant experience; or
- An equivalent combination of education and experience.
- We may require registration as a professional engineer by the NC of Examiners for Engineers and Surveyors.
