The Challenge
We’re looking for an Engineer to join our Roadway Design team that creates and reviews roadway design plans, lighting, and electrical plans, and provides technical expertise to internal and external stakeholders.
 
In this role, you will
    • Serve as an entry-level engineer on a team of engineers in the Plan Review and Design Support Group.
    • Use your CADD skills to develop roadway design plans and generate roadway design quantities for construction estimates throughout the project delivery process.
    • Employ current design principles and practices to ensure your work products conform to NCDOT standards and specifications.
    • Assist with coordinating requests for Special Studies projects and attend project status meetings with technical units, Divisions, and private engineering firms.
    • Assist with training Engineering Associates and interns in basic roadway design principles.
 
Note:
    • You may be required to register as a professional engineer with the NC Board of Examiners for Engineers and Surveyors.
 
What You Bring
    • Knowledge of civil engineering principles related to highway design, NCDOT policies and procedures, and AASHTO guidelines.
    • Computer skills in design software such as MicroStation, Geopak, Corridor Modeling, and OpenRoads Designer (ORD).
    • Demonstrated ability to prepare roadway design plans and construction estimates for the different stages of project plan development.
    • Demonstrated ability to interpret plans, provisions and specifications.
    • Excellent verbal and written communication skills to convey technical information in a clear, concise, and organized manner, and consult with higher-level engineers on technical matters.
Education & Experience
    • Bachelors degree in Engineering; or
    • An equivalent combination of training and experience.
