Full-Time Engineer – Roadside Environmental – Entry Level!
Job Description
- Conduct environmental compliance reviews of land-disturbing projects associated with highway construction in NCDOT Divisions 4 and 5.
- Lead field implementation of erosion and sediment control program involving: the Sedimentation Pollution Control Act; US Army Corps of Engineers Section 404; NCDEQ’s 401 Water Quality Certification; National Pollutant Discharge Elimination System; and riparian buffer rules.
- Review erosion and sediment control/stormwater plans, National Pollutant Discharge Elimination System,/NCG01 compliance reviews and attend preconstruction/planning meetings.
- Work directly and communicate with NCDOT central/field staff, contractors, regulatory staff, and consultants on the development, implementation and maintenance of erosion/sedimentation control and stormwater practices.
- Plan, organize, and schedule daily activities.
- Perform thorough site inspections on active construction sites to determine compliance with approved plans.
- Perform erosion and sediment control plan design reviews for land disturbing projects.
- Correspond with engineers, contractors, and regulatory agencies regarding erosion and sediment control/stormwater compliance issues.
- Provide technical guidance and training to engineers, contractors and other staff on erosion and sediment control/stormwater requirements.
- Experience conducting site inspections for implementation of erosion and sediment control plans and specifications.
- Knowledge and understanding of general concepts, practices, and theories of erosion and sediment control/stormwater laws and NPDES stormwater requirements for construction sites.
- Knowledge of erosion and sediment control design principles and review of plan designs for compliance with applicable standards.
- Experience applying engineering concepts to solving problems.
- Experience communicating to resolve problems involving explaining engineering concepts to customer groups.
- Ability to make field engineering decisions.
- Ability to write clear, concise, and organized documents and reports addressing erosion and sediment control/stormwater engineering concepts and facts.
- Ability to present detailed technical information, guidelines, and standards to seek erosion and sediment control/stormwater compliance.
- Agility to traverse rough terrain by foot and travel independently to projects.
- Bachelors degree in Engineering; or
- An equivalent combination of training and experience.
- You may be required to register as a professional engineer with the NC Board of Examiners for Engineers and Surveyors.
