New Higher Salary: $58,294 – $102,015
The Challenge​​​​​​​
We are looking for an experienced Engineer to join our Roadway Design team that produces and reviews roadway design plans, lighting and electrical plans, and provides technical expertise to internal and external stakeholders.
 
In this role, you will:
    • Research and identify best practices in local, state, and national roadway design guidance and practices.
    • Analyze research, especially relating to current NCDOT design guidance/practices and develop technical reports to convey research findings.
    • Aid in roadway design investigation-related inquiries from internal/external customers and generate timely responses.
    • Coordinate with the Roadway Design team, other technical staff, NCDOT division, and private engineering firms as a part of ongoing maintenance of roadway design guidance such as the Roadway Design Manual.
    • Support NCDOT’s transition to Bentley OpenRoads Designer (ORD).
    • Assist in the development of training materials on roadway design guidance and best practices.
    • Develop roadway design plans and calculation of quantities.
    • Train junior engineers, Transportation Engineering Associates, and interns.
What You Bring
    • Knowledge of civil engineering principles (especially relating to highway design), AASHTO guidance, NCDOT Roadway Design Manual, Bridge Policy, NCDOT Standard Drawings and Specifications, and NCDOT policies/procedures.
    • Knowledge of Bentley highway design software and workspaces (MicroStation, GeoPak, Open Roads Designer (ORD), and Corridor Modeling).
    • Experience producing/reviewing engineered design plans and details to determine compliance and compatibility with construction and engineering principles and maintenance standards, codes, designs, and statutes.
    • Demonstrated ability to perform research on technical topics relating to highway design, coordinate meetings and effectively communicate technical information in a clear, concise, and organized manner (both verbal and written).
    • Demonstrated ability to consult with senior engineers and multidisciplinary staff on technical matters and to train junior engineers.
Note
    • We may require registration as a professional engineer by the NC Board of Examiners for Engineers and Surveyors.
 
Education & Experience
    • Bachelors Degree in engineering, and
    • 3+ years of relevant experience; or
    • An equivalent combination of education and experience.
