The Challenge​​​​​​​
We are hiring a Deputy Project Manager Engineer II to join our Project Management team that works with team leaders across NCDOT managing scope, schedule, budget, quality, and risks for transportation projects.
 
In this role, you will:
    • Run the day-to-day activities and tasks required to lead a multi-disciplinary transportation engineering project team.
    • Manage a portfolio of centrally-managed State Transportation Improvement Projects (STIPs) with low to moderate complexity during the pre-construction phase to ensure project schedules and defined outcomes are met.
    • Manage day-to-day activities and tasks on complex projects with assistance from the Project Manager and Senior Project Manager.
    • Track and report on assigned tasks to the Project Manager and Senior Project Manager.
    • Develop project schedules and plans to implement work required to deliver projects and follow up to ensure that work is completed with projects remaining in scope, on schedule, and within budget.
    • Maintain project milestones, track changes and decisions, identify risks and mitigation strategies, and ensure deliverables follow all federal/NC laws, rules, regulations, policies, and procedures.
    • Analyze data, request technical deviations and exceptions, and provide comments to the Senior Project Manager.
    • Provide technical guidance to private engineering firms (PEFs) on design matters, administer PEF contracts and participate in consultant selection.
    • Provide scopes of service, labor cost estimates, review progress reports, check invoices for accuracy/completeness, and provide performance feedback.
    • Attend meetings with stakeholders and team members.
What You Bring
    • Experience managing project teams to deliver transportation projects and tracking/maintaining project schedules.
    • Knowledge of professional engineering principles and practices of civil engineering related to Highway Design with an emphasis on project planning, project design, and construction, and maintenance methods, as they apply to the Project Delivery Process.
    • Knowledge of Professional Engineering contracts and understanding of scoping, estimating, and negotiating contracts.
    • Demonstrated ability to set and manage priorities, develop work schedules, monitor goal progress, and track details/data/information/activities.
    • Demonstrated ability to express moderately-complex engineering concepts and related facts in a clear and organized manner to internal and external customers.
Note
    • We may require registration as a professional engineer by the NC Board of Examiners for Engineers and Surveyors.
 
Education & Experience
    • Bachelors Degree in engineering, and
    • 3+ years of relevant experience; or
    • An equivalent combination of education and experience.
