Full-Time Engineer II – Deputy Project Manager
Job Description
- Execute the day-to-day activities and tasks required of a multi-disciplinary team.
- Manage a portfolio of centrally-managed State Transportation Improvement (STIP) projects with low to moderate complexity during the pre-construction phase to ensure project schedules and defined outcomes are met.
- Manage daily activities and tasks on complex projects with the assistance of the Project Manager/Senior Project Manager.
- Track and report on assigned tasks to the Project Manager and the Senior Project Manager.
- Develop project schedules and plans to implement work required to deliver projects and follow-up to ensure that work is completed with projects in scope, on schedule, and within budget.
- Maintain project milestones, track changes and decisions, identify risks and mitigation strategies, and ensure deliverables follow all federal and state laws, rules, regulations, policies, and procedures.
- Analyze data, request technical deviations and exceptions, and provide comments to the Senior Project Manager.
- Provide technical guidance to private engineering firms (PEF) on design matters, administer PEF contracts, and participate in consultant selection.
- Provide scopes of service, workday/cost estimates, review progress reports, check invoices for accuracy/completeness and provide performance feedback.
- Attend meetings with stakeholders and team members (in person) as needed.
- Manage Locally Administered Projects (LAP) with assistance from senior staff.
- Experience managing a project team to deliver transportation projects and track/maintain project schedules.
- Knowledge of professional engineering principles and practices of civil engineering related to Highway Design with an emphasis on project planning, project design, and construction and maintenance methods, related to the Project Delivery Process.
- Knowledge of Professional Engineering contracts, and the ability to understand scoping, estimating, and negotiating contracts.
- Demonstrated ability setting priorities, developing work schedules, monitoring goal progress, and tracking details/data/information/activities.
- Communications prowess to express moderately-complex engineering concepts and related facts in a clear and organized manner to internal and external customers.
- We may require registration as a professional engineer with the NC Board of Examiners for Engineers and Surveyors.
- Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, and
- 3+ years of relevant experience; or
- An equivalent combination of training and experience.
