The target starting salary range for this position is $130,000-155,000/year, based on education and experience. Location

 

The City and County of Denver supports a hybrid workplace model. Employees work where needed, at a job site several days a week and off-site as needed. In this position you can expect to work 3 days per week on site at Denver International Airport, 8500 Pena Blvd. Denver, CO 80249. Employees must work within the state of Colorado on their off-site days.

The Planning and Design team is at the forefront of many exciting facilities and infrastructure projects at DEN. The Design team’s purview includes Architectural & Interior Design, Space Planning & Allocation, and Wayfinding. We wear many hats on projects of different scales, from being the in-house designer and space planner to providing design reviews and managing design studies with consultants. The Design Team’s Vision is to shape Denver International Airport’s built environment through innovative design solutions that embody DEN’s strategic vision of being “America’s favorite connecting hub, where the Rocky Mountains meet the world”.

 

The Engineer-Architect Specialist – Planning and Design is a specialty technical role within the group and is an extraordinary opportunity for an experienced Architect with a passion for solution-driven design, project delivery, and strategic leadership. In this role, you will liaise with all DEN divisions to provide your insight and expertise in proposed facility improvement and development projects. As a subject matter expert, you will review designs, and weigh in on architectural and engineering systems coordination, constructability, and schedule feasibility to ensure that the work meets DEN’s Design principles, guidelines, and standards. You will provide oversight to internal and external teams of Architects, Planners, and Project Managers for a variety of public-facing as well as back-of-house project types at the airport.

 

This is a challenging opportunity requiring a leader committed to excellence, problem-solving, and continuous improvement. This role oversees design initiatives, including developing technical design standards, options, phasing plans, preliminary budgets, and schedules for informed decision-making.

 

Additional job duties include:

  • Represents the division/department in meetings with key stakeholders, elected and appointed officials, other city entities, and state and federal agencies. Serves as the airport’s representative with a variety of public, business, and community organizations. Fosters collaborative relationships to the benefit of the organization
  • Communicates business and work area plans and goals to managers and supervisors to secure buy-in. Reviews, approves, and implements recommended changes to plans and leads the development of process and operational improvements
  • Uses resources appropriately and equitably.  Removes barriers inhibiting individuals from working and communicating effectively
  • Champions continuous improvement, including devising new strategies and new opportunities. Sets performance standards for the division and ensures operations achieve or exceed performance metrics.
  • Demonstrates personal accountability, responsibility, and initiative
  • Builds effective teams, encourages dialogue and discourse, encourages strengths, and addresses deficiencies

 

About You

 

Our ideal candidate has some or all the following experience, skills, and characteristics:​

  • Some previous supervisor/leadership experience
  • Five (5) to ten (10) years of progressive experience with Program and Project Management of Facility (vertical) projects
  • Experience with Architectural Quality Management practices at all design and construction phases
  • Technical project coordination amongst architectural and engineering disciplines for facilities projects; ground-up as well as renovation
  • Aviation design and construction experience at a major international airport is helpful (not required)
  • Experience with innovative program and project delivery methods such as progressive design-build, CM/GC, and other alternative delivery methods
  • Experience working with multiple stakeholders

 

Required Minimum Qualifications

  • Education: Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering or Architecture
  • Experience: Three (3) years of experience at the type and level of a Senior Engineer or Senior Architect
  • Education/Experience Equivalency: No substitution of experience for education is permitted
  • Additional appropriate education may be substituted for experience requirements
  • Requires a valid Driver’s License at the time of application
  • Requires registration as a Professional Engineer (PE) by the Colorado State Board of Registration for Professional Engineers at the time of application. OR requires registration as an Architect by the Colorado State Board of Registration at the time of application
  • Registration in another state will be accepted in lieu of this requirement, provided that the applicant has Colorado registration at completion of probation
  • Licenses and certifications must be kept current as a condition of employment
