Job Summary:
The Engagement Officer position is responsible for fundraising through employee engagement campaigns. The position plans and executes employee giving and engagement efforts and supports year-round stewardship of key corporate relationships. The role promotes United Way’s donor programs such as the Emerging Leaders 365, Change Makers, through corporate LIVE United committees, and donor and community events. The position builds and maintains relationships with medium to large employers, including Fortune 500 Companies, government bodies, school districts and non-profit organizations; and explores new community partnerships through strategic outreach. The Engagement Officer works together with the Associate Director to manage complex institutional relationships with local and national companies such as Costco, Microsoft, Nordstrom, and PACCAR and serves as a relationship builder with new donors, key individuals, and volunteers in United Way’s fundraising efforts.
The position provides quality, effective relationship management and involves regular one-on-one interaction with executive volunteers, Engagement Coordinators, campaign coordinators, and corporate community relations staff to achieve United Way’s philanthropic goals.
The annual salary range is $79,806.60 – $81,580.08 DOE. This position is open until filled.

Essential Duties
- Serves as a member of the Corporate/Institutional Giving Team, managing a portfolio of 35-50 workplace giving campaigns.
- Represents United Way of King County in the community and with companies via public speaking, presentations, and networking activities.
- Co-creates engagement strategies (volunteering and fundraising) that matches company and community needs using a range of United Way offerings with internal and external stakeholders.
- Plans and executes virtual and in-person workplace giving events as part of the United Way campaign, including scheduling leveraging both internal and external speakers.
- Collaborates cross-team with individual giving, and the Annual Fund team to support fundraising communication to donors who give primarily through workplace giving campaigns. Proactively promoting United Way Affinity programs: Emerging Leaders 365 and Change Makers to build both groups.
- Collaborates with Corporate Relations Managers on strategies for employee and corporate engagement on shared accounts.
- Supports LIVE United Committees to build affinity with United Way at the company and to support a range of corporate engagement/sponsorship opportunities.
- Collaborates closely with IT and Financial Operations to execute successful giving platforms and provide customer service for donor/donation questions.
- Maintains thorough documentation of account activities and history in United Way’s constituent relationship management (CRM) database, Mission CRM.
- Acts as account lead and advisor for Engagement Coordinators working on shared accounts during their seasonal employment.
- Performs other related duties as assigned.

- Demonstrated understanding of social and racial justice and equity, with a proven commitment to apply racial and economic justice lenses in both personal and workplace contexts.
- Lived experience and/or demonstrated professional skills working within a diverse work environment.
- Demonstrated relationship-building skills, beginning with discovery and including closing gifts.
- Effective communication skills – listening, public speaking, and formal/informal business writing.
- Proven ability to analyze data, create appealing programs, break new ground, and attract support from stakeholders.
- Demonstrated ability to work comfortably with volunteers and with individual donors.
- Excellent task, time, and project management skills,
- Demonstrated ability to set goals and objectives using appropriate analytical techniques
- Demonstrated ability to gain trust and establish a collaborative, positive working relationship with all contacts.
- Demonstrated ability to use discretion and independent judgment and/or action in evaluating situations and making decisions.
- Advanced proficiency with Microsoft Office and common virtual meeting platforms; Mission CRM and mass communication experience a plus.
Education and/or Experience:
Bachelor’s degree or equivalent with experience in fundraising, outside sales, business, marketing, communications, sociology, or a related field. A minimum of 3 years’ experience in fundraising or sales/marketing required. Experience with face-to-face donor solicitation and knowledge of fundraising techniques, with an emphasis in customer relationship building, is highly desired. Volunteer management experience a plus.
