Job Description
- Supervise, manage, and lead development activities of the signal technicians in our Division 7 Traffic Operations.
- Supervise technical repair and efficient operation of ITS devices, including Closed Loop System repairs and maintenance.
- Coordinate contractor activities and technician inspections.
- Investigate engineer and public requests and report solutions meeting the MUTCD and NCDOT standard specifications.
- Conduct staff performance reviews.
- Prioritize activities of signal technician’s daily work.
- Assist in 811 fiber locations using locating equipment and roadway drawings to mark buried fiber.
- Respond to emergency maintenance calls during and after normal working hours.
- Train staff on and operate a 24K signal bucket truck.
- Perform skilled work in the diagnosis of malfunctions in microprocessor-based traffic signal controllers and cabinets to the module level.
- Assist in the installation and inspection of all aspects of traffic signal installations.
- Manage inventory and operation of our signal warehouse, maintenance of electronic equipment, and vehicles.
- Use electrical and electronic test equipment to troubleshoot malfunctioning traffic control equipment.
- Conduct research and development of new technologies.
- Diagnose malfunctions in traffic signal equipment.
- Schedule and plan maintenance duties while working within the proposed budget restraints.
- Monitor expenditures within budgetary guidelines using our SAP online system.
- High knowledge of the principles applying safe and efficient practices in the installation, alternation, repair and maintenance of electrical, electro-mechanical, and ITS devices.
- Demonstrated knowledge of the principles and practices applied in the installation, revision, repair, and maintenance of electrical and electronic traffic control systems.
- Demonstrated knowledge of MUTCD and NCDOT traffic signal specifications.
- Demonstrated ability to read and interpret wiring diagrams, schematics, traffic signals, intersection design, standard specifications, and maintenance manuals associated with traffic signal equipment.
- Demonstrated ability to troubleshoot nonstandard traffic electronic equipment, or equipment with incomplete/missing documentation.
- Demonstrated ability to effectively plan, schedule, and complete work assignments with minimal technical supervision.
- Ability to safely operate a motor vehicle.
- A Class A commercial driver’s license with Tanker (N) endorsement. (Note: if you don’t have this, still apply. You can get it through our on-the-job training within 360 days of hire).
- Your work will be performed without immediate supervision.
- You will be required to work nights and weekends as needed for emergency and planned operations in all types of weather.
- We will conduct a pre-employment drug test and background check with your previous employers for the past 3 years about controlled substances and alcohol testing.
- We may require appropriate licensure by the governing board or commission.
- Associate’s degree in Electronics, and
- 3+ years experience repairing/maintaining complex electronic systems, including some responsibility for the design of electronic apparatus; or
- An equivalent combination of training and experience.
