Electronics Technician III
Job Description
- Use electrical and electronic test equipment to troubleshoot malfunctioning traffic control equipment. If the malfunction is the result of a hardware failure, you will remove and replace the defective electronic component(s) and reprogram any associated firmware.
- Perform upgrades and test repaired equipment to verify proper functioning.
- Evaluate traffic control equipment for compliance with specifications and functional capabilities for use on our Highway System.
- Determine test equipment needs and priorities.
- Design and implement modifications to traffic control equipment to extend its functions.
- Modify traffic control cabinets according to designs produced by others to add essential safety related features, such as railroad preemption.
- Strong knowledge of the principles/practices of electrical/electronics engineering, operating characteristics of standard electrical and communications equipment, electronic components, test equipment, and practices used in electrical engineering.
- Strong knowledge of electronics theory, electrical systems, communication systems, and how they work together to form an integrated system.
- Experience reading and analyzing schematic diagrams and maintenance manuals to troubleshoot/repair complex electronic equipment at the component level.
- Experience removing and replacing soldered through-hole, surface mounted, and ball grid array electronic components.
- Working knowledge of Microsoft Office.
Applicants with:
- a Class C Driver’s License for frequent travel statewide with occasional overnight travel.
- Agility to traverse rough terrain on roadside environments.
- We may require appropriate licensure by the governing board or commission.
- Associate’s degree in Electronics, and
- 3+ years experience repairing/maintaining complex electronic systems, including some responsibility for the design of electronic apparatus; or
- An equivalent combination of training and experience.
