The Challenge
We’re looking for an experienced Electronics Technician to join our Traffic Services Team.
In this role, you will
    • Train junior Electronic Technicians and verify that their day-to-day field work is compliant with NCDOT Standards.
    • Assist in & construct signal installations.
    • Diagnose traffic signal equipment malfunctions.
    • Safely operate a 24K signal bucket truck.
    • Assist in & construct signal installations, including aerial span wire & cable, vehicle sensors in pavement, and wiring of complex cabinets.
    • Perform skilled work in the malfunction diagnostics of microprocessor-based & solid state traffic signal controllers and cabinets to the module level.
    • Read/interpret drawing and wire diagrams and make installations/repairs using them.
    • Use hand tools and field test equipment.
    • Respond to emergency maintenance calls during and after normal working hours.
 
What You Bring
    • Leadership to successfully direct and supervise work teams and individuals.
    • Experience using standard test equipment to diagnose/repair electronic components.
    • Experience reading and understanding schematic drawings and wiring diagrams.
    • Knowledge of the principles and practices applied in the installation, revision, repair, and maintenance of electrical and electronic traffic control systems.
    • Demonstrated ability to effectively plan, schedule, and perform work assignments with minimal technical supervision.
    • Experience applying the principles in the MUTCD, NC DOT Standard Specifications, NC DOT Roadway Drawings, and the National Electric Code.
    • Ability to safely operate a motor vehicle.
    • Class B Commercial Driver’s License. (Note: If you don’t have this, still apply. You can get it within 360 days of hire through our on-the-job training.)
Management Prefers
    • Candidates with a valid State driver’s license.
Education & Experience
    • Associate’s degree in Electronics, and
    • 2+ years experience repairing/maintaining complex electronic systems, including some responsibility for the design of electronic apparatus; or
    • An equivalent combination of training and experience.
Note
    • Safety toe shoes are required.
    • We will conduct a pre-employment drug test, and check with your previous employers for the past 2 years about controlled substances and alcohol testing.
