Job Description
- Train junior Electronic Technicians and verify that their day-to-day field work is compliant with NCDOT Standards.
- Assist in & construct signal installations.
- Diagnose traffic signal equipment malfunctions.
- Safely operate a 24K signal bucket truck.
- Assist in & construct signal installations, including aerial span wire & cable, vehicle sensors in pavement, and wiring of complex cabinets.
- Perform skilled work in the malfunction diagnostics of microprocessor-based & solid state traffic signal controllers and cabinets to the module level.
- Read/interpret drawing and wire diagrams and make installations/repairs using them.
- Use hand tools and field test equipment.
- Respond to emergency maintenance calls during and after normal working hours.
- Leadership to successfully direct and supervise work teams and individuals.
- Experience using standard test equipment to diagnose/repair electronic components.
- Experience reading and understanding schematic drawings and wiring diagrams.
- Knowledge of the principles and practices applied in the installation, revision, repair, and maintenance of electrical and electronic traffic control systems.
- Demonstrated ability to effectively plan, schedule, and perform work assignments with minimal technical supervision.
- Experience applying the principles in the MUTCD, NC DOT Standard Specifications, NC DOT Roadway Drawings, and the National Electric Code.
- Ability to safely operate a motor vehicle.
- Class B Commercial Driver’s License. (Note: If you don’t have this, still apply. You can get it within 360 days of hire through our on-the-job training.)
- Candidates with a valid State driver’s license.
- Associate’s degree in Electronics, and
- 2+ years experience repairing/maintaining complex electronic systems, including some responsibility for the design of electronic apparatus; or
- An equivalent combination of training and experience.
- Safety toe shoes are required.
- We will conduct a pre-employment drug test, and check with your previous employers for the past 2 years about controlled substances and alcohol testing.
