Full-Time Electronics Technician I – Traffic Services
Job Description
- Maintain and repair electrical, electronic, and computerized traffic control systems throughout NCDOT Division 8.
- Assist in the installation, testing, upgrades, and inspections of new and existing Traffic Control Systems.
- Install traffic signal equipment using wiring detectors.
- Install and wire controllers.
- Trace out electrical wiring diagrams to locate trouble.
- Dismantle and reassemble components.
- Replace worn/faulty parts.
- Maintain computer records for all signal work, your time worked, and all materials.
- Knowledge of standard test equipment used to diagnose electronic components.
- Experience reading and understanding schematic drawings and wiring diagrams.
- Knowledge of the National Electric Code.
- Demonstrated ability to plan, schedule, and carry out work assignments effectively with minimal supervision.
- Experience performing manual and physical labor in varied environmental conditions.
- Strength to lift up to 85 lbs. or more shoulder high.
- Ability to use and operate an aerial bucket truck up to 50 feet.
- Good ability to understand and follow verbal and written instructions and comply with all safety rules/policies to maintain a safe work environment.
- Ability to perform manual physical labor in the installation and removal of traffic signs and other traffic control devices.
- Considerable knowledge of MUTCD and NCDOT traffic signal specification.
- Ability to troubleshoot nonstandard traffic electronic equipment, or equipment with incomplete or missing documentation.
- You can work outside in extreme cold and hot, and with exposure to noise, dust, asphalt, traffic and heavy construction.
- Ability to get a Class B Commercial Driver’s License within 360 days of hire. (If you don’t have it already, still apply. You can get it through our On-the-job Training).
- Your work will be performed without constant supervision and will be evaluated by your supervisor to ensure an efficient use of time and proper operation of repaired/maintained Traffic Control Systems.
- Overtime work is required when necessary, and you will be subject to emergency callback.
- Safety toe footwear is required.
- A pre-employment drug test is required.
- We will check with previous employers for the past 2 years about controlled substances/alcohol abuse.
- Associate’s degree in Electronics, and
- 1+ year experience in the repair and maintenance of specialized electronic devices, preferably including some responsibility for circuit modification; or
- An equivalent combination of training and experience.
