The Challenge
We’re looking for an Electronics Technician to join our Division 2 Traffic Services team.
 
In this role, you will
    • Maintain and repair electrical, electronic, and computerized traffic control systems throughout NCDOT Division 2, but mainly in Carteret, Craven, Jones, and Pamlico Counties.
    • Assist in the installation, testing, upgrades, and inspections of new and existing Traffic Control Systems.
    • Install traffic signal equipment using wiring detectors.
    • Install and wire controllers.
    • Trace out electrical wiring diagrams to locate trouble.
    • Dismantle and reassemble components.
    • Replace worn/faulty parts.
    • Maintain computer records for all signal work, your time worked, and all materials.
 
What You Bring
    • Knowledge of standard test equipment used to diagnose electronic components.
    • Experience reading and understanding schematic drawings and wiring diagrams.
    • Knowledge of the National Electric Code.
    • Demonstrated ability to plan, schedule, and carry out work assignments effectively with minimal supervision.
    • Experience performing manual and physical labor in varied environmental conditions.
    • General knowledge of the principles and practices applied in the safe/efficient use of tools, materials and test equipment used in the electrical/electronic trades.
    • Ability to diagnose equipment failure sources.
    • Ability to repair/maintain complex electrical equipment.
    • Ability to lift up to 80 pounds to shoulder high.
    • Ability to use and operate an aerial bucket truck up to 60 feet without accommodations.
    • Communication skills to follow verbal and written instructions and comply with all safety rules/policies to maintain a safe work environment.
    • Ability to perform manual and physical labor installing and removing traffic signals and traffic control devices.
    • Capable of working in extreme cold and heat, exposure to noise, dust, asphalt, traffic and heavy construction.
 
Notes
    • Your work will be performed without constant supervision and will be evaluated by your supervisor to ensure an efficient use of time and proper operation of repaired/maintained Traffic Control Systems.
    • Overtime work is required when necessary, and you will be subject to emergency callback.
    • You will be required to be in an on-call rotation to respond to after-hours traffic signal issues.
    • Safety toe footwear is required.
    • A valid Class “A” Commercial Driver’s License with Tanker “N” endorsement is required within 90 days of employment. A commercial driver’s permit must be obtained within 30 days of employment.
    • A pre-employment drug test is required.
    • We will check with previous employers for the past 2 years about controlled substances/alcohol abuse.
 
Education & Experience
    • Associate’s degree in Electronics, and
    • 1+ year experience in the repair and maintenance of specialized electronic devices, preferably including some responsibility for circuit modification; or
    • An equivalent combination of training and experience.
