About the position
The Electrical Manufacturing Engineer is responsible for supporting the Manufacturing Engineering Department and Production for product assembly. In addition, this position will support Production and field teams with troubleshooting, debug operations, and sustaining engineering of existing products.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide support to the Manufacturing Engineering department.
- Apply electrical engineering concepts in low-volume/high-configurability manufacturing environment.
- Create and update electrical drawings (cables, schematics, electro assemblies, etc.) to meet current standards.
- Create and update manufacturing work instructions and other necessary documentation for manufacturing.
- Create and implement Engineering Change Orders (ECOs).
- Work directly with assemblers, technicians and engineers with a hands-on approach to identify improvement opportunities and root cause problem solve.
- Train manufacturing personnel on new or updated assembly processes.
- Recommend equipment, materials and tooling that provide necessary manufacturing capabilities.
- Confer with management, engineering, and other staff regarding manufacturing capabilities, production estimates, staff/equipment requirements and other considerations to support new product planning and development efforts.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Experience and Qualifications
- S. in Engineering (Electrical preferred), or equivalent experience
- 3+ years manufacturing experience with electro-mechanical assembly, wiring, and test
- S. citizenship or U.S. work permit required, local candidates only
Knowledge, skills and abilities
- Hands-on ability to work with and analyze electro-mechanical assemblies
- Ability to interpret Drawings & Schematics at a basic level
- CAD modeling system (DraftSight/AutoCAD) operation at a basic to intermediate level; SolidWorks Electrical preferred
- Practical analytical and problem-solving skills for electrical wiring and assemblies.
- System bring up and functional test
- Knowledge of transformers and power supplies at a basic level
- Proficient use of measuring instruments such as digital multi-meters, LCR, oscilloscope, signal analyzer, etc.
- Knowledge of J-STD-001, IPC-610 & IPC-620 preferred
- ISO9001 Knowledge preferred
- Knowledge of Lean Methods / Six Sigma preferred
- Ability to learn production sequences and the company’s quality standards.
- Knowledge of ERP Systems; INFOR/Visual preferred
Working Conditions / Physical & Mental Demands
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to stand; walk; use hands to finger, handle, or feel objects, tools, or controls; reach with hands and arms; stoop, kneel or crouch; and talk or hear. The employee is occasionally required to sit. The employee must be able to navigate a manufacturing environment and reach items both high and low and must have the ability to regularly lift and/or maneuver up to 50 pounds. Employee is also frequently required to operate common handheld power tools in a safe manner. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.
While performing the duties of this job, the employee regularly works near moving mechanical parts. The noise level in the work environment is usually loud. Employee must be able to work in a variety of environmental conditions and temperatures in the manufacturing warehouse.
