Job Title: Education Officer
Location: Manchester or Birmingham. 40% time in any BB office (60% working from home) with regular travel to London (every 4-6 weeks) and semi-regular travel to other offices (every 3 months)
Salary: £22,500 – £25,000
Hours: 5 days per week (37.5 hours), open to flexible working arrangements
Contract: Permanent
Language requirements: Fluent English
Overall purpose:
Breaking Barriers’ Education Programme was started in 2017 to complement our core Employment support. The Programme is designed to enable refugees to achieve the level of English that is needed to enter the workplace or further education by providing supplementary courses to statutory provision. Covering a range of levels of English language courses, from Pre-Beginner to Business Writing, the Programme has expanded to include IT and Numeracy and Digital Skills, and aims to branch out into further courses. The Education Programme relies on skilled volunteers who support with curriculum development and lead our education courses helping our clients learn English and improve their IT skills.
We are in exciting period of growth and change at Breaking Barriers. We know the need for English language support is growing and this is going to be an important time for us to scale up our support across new regions. The Education Officer will be vital in ensuring that we are able to test new ways of working to make sure we are reaching every client who needs support. The Education Officer will take responsibility of the organisation and coordination of online and face to face English and Training courses across multiple regions. They will communicate with clients, volunteers and staff members to ensure they are aware of when classes are taking place and that all relevant admin is completed. The successful candidate will work closely with the Senior Education Officer to support with the management of volunteer teachers, developments of new pilots and ensure that delivery of courses remains to a high quality.
