Driller Assistant – FT Temp
Job Description
- Identifying the best methods for penetrating subsurface materials.
- Identifying changes in subsurface conditions based drill equipment and test apparatus reactions between test elevations.
- Mobilizing complex drilling, testing and sampling equipment.
- Operating heavy equipment including trucks, trailers and transport equipment including truck-mounted drills, ATV mounted drills, skid-mounted rigs and barge drills.
- Equiping drills with applicable tools and accessories including pumps, pressure hoses, water tanks, drilling bits, drilling rods, drilling casing, coring apparatus, bentonite mud, mud tub, standard penetration test apparatus, solid augers, hollow stem augers, Shelby tubes, adapters and hand tools.
- Maintaining complex drilling and testing equipment.
- Inspecting and repairing drill machines, testing and sampling equipment.
- Maintaining tools and equipment readiness.
- Instructing technicians in the safe and efficient operation and maintenance of power drill machines, drill accessories, survey instruments and office procedures.
- Contacting property owners to notify them of the project activities and obtaining well water information.
- Contacting utility companies to have them determine location of underground utilities.
- Working knowledge of water well/geotechnical drilling or heavy equipment operation and maintenance.
- Ability to safely operate a chain saw and other power tools.
- Experience performing normal drilling procedures such as auger drilling, mud drilling, wash boring, rock coring, hand augering, rod sounding and probing, and communicate subsurface changes between tests from reaction of drill equipment.
- Communication skills to describe work to property owners and utility-locating services.
- Ability to do very heavy work including exerting 100+ pounds occasionally, 50+ pounds frequently, and 10+ pounds constantly.
- Able to obtain a Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) Permit within 30 days of employment and CDL License within 9 months.
- A pre-employment drug testing is required for this position.
- Frequent overnight travel may be required.
- Associate’s degree in Engineering Technology, Survey Technology or related curriculum; or
- High School/GED Diploma and 2+ years of drilling experience; or
- An equivalent combination of education and experience.
