Full-Time Driller Assistant / Engineering Technician – Entry Level!
Job Description
- Perform and support drilling operations to gather geotechnical data enabling our Geologist/Engineer to make recommendations for design, construction and /or maintenance or future and existing roadways and structures.
- Perform, as part of a team, in situ tests using standard to complex drilling procedures. Standard in situ tests include Standard Penetration Tests, Vane Shear tests, and Dynamic Penetration tests.
- Perform normal drilling procedures including auger drilling, mud drilling, rock coring, wash boring, hand augering, rod sounding, and probing.
- Identify best methods for penetrating subsurface materials and identifying changes in subsurface conditions based on reactions of drill equipment and test apparatus between test elevations.
- Mobilize drilling, testing, and sampling equipment by operating heavy equipment including trucks/trailers/transport equipment to job sites.
- Equip drills with tools and accessories that may include pumps, pressure hoses, water tanks, drilling bits, drilling rods, drilling casing, coring apparatus, bentonite mud, mud tub, standard penetration test apparatus, solid augers, hollow stem augers, shelby tubes, adapters, and hand tools.
- Maintain complex drilling and testing equipment requiring frequent inspections/numerous repairs.
- Knowledge of water well/geotechnical drilling or heavy equipment operation and maintenance.
- Experience safely operating a chain saw and other power tools.
- Experience communicating work to be performed to property owners and utility locating services.
- Experience doing very heavy work including occasionally exerting 100+ pounds of force , and 50+ pounds of force frequently, and 10+ pounds of force constantly to move objects.
- Ability to obtain a Commercial Driver’s License Permit within 30 days of employment and license within 360 days of employment. (Note: You can earn this through our on the job training program!)
- Frequent overnight travel may be required.
- A pre-employment drug testing is required.
- Associate’s degree in Civil Engineering Technology, Survey Technology, or a similar discipline; or
- An equivalent combination of education and experience.

We assist in the construction and maintenance of roadways and structures and investigate and develop remediation plans for geotechnical/geoenvironmental problems.We investigate known and potentially contaminated properties to identify the presence and provide removal instructions for hazardous material and underground storage tanks.We also review geotechnical designs and construction submittals from private engineering firms and contractors.We lead new product evaluations before products are used in construction.
