Part-Time Donor Stewardship & Communications Manager

Job Description

Position Summary

The Donor Stewardship & Communications Manager is a key member of the Foundation’s team of professionals who are focused on providing our donors (fund holders) with the highest level of service in support of their charitable giving. This .375 FTE position reports to the Executive Director, and serves as the primary stewardship advisor for LCF’s designated, scholarship and non-committee advised field of interest fund donor representatives. In line with overall donor relations strategies, this position realizes opportunities to engage donors to fully leverage available fund spending balances in support of the donors’ charitable intent and the foundation’s mission. This position also serves as the key manager of LCF’s marketing and communications activities, including execution of the foundation’s annual donor stewardship plan.

Principal Duties and Responsibilities

  • Manage all designated, scholarship and non-committee advised field of interest fund donor relationships
  • Monitor the overall activity of this fund group and be responsive to donor needs, i.e. ensure easy access to information to enhance donors’ overall satisfaction with the foundation
  • Provide superior service to support donors’ philanthropic goals and enrich their experience of giving through the Foundation
  • Maintain ongoing communication through a multi-channel approach to steward the donors and cultivate additional gifts with assistance from the Executive Director
  • Maintain accurate records of all contacts and related fund activity in the foundation’s database software
  • Create and oversee implementation of the Foundation’s annual donor stewardship plan for all living fund representatives and unrestricted donors
    • Create and/or oversee opportunities for donors to interact with Foundation staff, board, and key constituents, including assistance with implementing high-touch programs and events
    • Identify opportunities for donor recognition
    • Deliver “benefits” as indicated in the Foundation’s stewardship plan to the various donor groups, i.e. fund holders, Forever Society, annual unrestricted donors, etc.
  • Manage the foundation’s multi-channel marketing and communications activities with support from the Executive Director and Program Director, as well as guidance from the Foundation’s public relations consultant
  • Ensure up to date, engaging content on the foundation’s website
  • Manage the foundation’s social media calendar and content/posting
  • Manage the development, distribution and maintenance of all print and electronic communications and collateral including, but not limited to, website blogs, print and digital newsletters and brochures
  • Execute all communications related to annual fundraising campaigns throughout the year, including the yearend appeal letter
  • Coordinate any purchased advertising or community event sponsorship opportunities
  • In collaboration with the Executive Director and other staff, support the execution of emerging Foundation projects and initiatives, and participate in ongoing strategy development and implementation
  • Support overall team cohesion and coordination
  • Attend all staff meetings and other organization events as requested by the Executive Director
  • Respond to colleagues’ needs in a timely manner as information, support or coverage is needed
  • Model the core guiding principles of the Foundation at all times

Qualifications

Minimum Requirements

  • Five years or more of experience working in a customer service and/or professional environment
  • Demonstrated ability to interact effectively with diverse individuals and groups
  • Strong customer service orientation and an ability to make people from various backgrounds feel at ease
  • Highly collaborative work style
  • Excellent writing/editing and verbal communication skills
  • Relationship builder with the flexibility and finesse to “manage by influence”
  • Must be proficient with Microsoft Office and have the ability to become adept at using our internal software/donor management system
  • Excellent organizational ability; ability to multi-task, track multiple projects, meet deadlines and set priorities in a fast-paced environment
  • Ability to work evenings and weekends as required for special events, meetings, etc. (rare)
  • Personal attributes of integrity and credibility, and an infectious energy and enthusiasm
  • A passion for community involvement and philanthropy

Preference will be given to candidates with these additional qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree
  • Knowledge about best practice philanthropy, charitable giving and experience working with donors
  • Nonprofit marketing or communications and/or graphic design experience
  • WordPress experience
  • Copywriting experience

PAY & BENEFITS

Pay will be commensurate to experience and the median average wage of comparable positions at similar sized community foundations in the Midwest ($24.00 to $36.00/hr). Benefits are pro-rated to the full-time equivalency, and include a stipend in lieu of health insurance, paid holidays, paid time off, hazardous weather pay, 403B retirement plan match, annual increases, and personal and professional advancement opportunities. All team members are expected to spend some of their weekly hours in the office, but have the flexibility to work from home when needed.
