Full-Time Donor Steward

Job Description

Fundación de Conservación Jocotoco (Jocotoco) is an Ecuadorian non-governmental organization with a mission to protect biodiversity hotspots and other areas of critical importance for the conservation of threatened species in Ecuador. Since its inception in 1998, Jocotoco has established and is managing a network of 15 reserves, adding up to over 33,000 hectares (>79,000 acres).

Jocotoco is one of the largest conservation organizations in South America offering a very dynamic environment, entrepreneurial spirit, and strong and sustained growth.

Jocotoco is looking for a donor steward/ess to engage with existing donors, and cultivate new relationships with foundations and individuals looking to support the protection of  this critical ecosystem in Ecuador.

Core responsibilities:

Fundraising and Donor Stewardship

  • Create, implement, and refine overall funding strategy including fundraising milestones and objectives.
  • Identify and cultivate foundations and private donors to support Jocotoco’s programs by building on existing relationships and conducting independent research.
  • Be responsible for the strategic management and implementation of individual and corporate giving in the US and Canada, raising unrestricted income and supporter engagement.
  • Develop and lead a Jocotoco US Ambassadors’ Team, championing high-quality supporter care, implementing best practices, and ensuring lifetime value of our supporters.
  • Develop and deliver events, reports, and other donor/prospect communication to complement the engagement strategy.

Management of External Marketing and Communication, Branding and Relationships

  • Work collaboratively with the Branding & Fundraising team in Ecuador to develop and implement a branding and marketing strategy, including content for the website, newsletters and social media platforms.
  • Attend necessary conferences, COPs, donor meetings and grant workshops and interact with wider conservation/biodiversity experts and donors and respond to any requests for information.

Skills & Experience:

  • 5+ years professional leadership role focused on fundraising, management and partnership experience, including at least 2-3 years in the non-profit sector with a Conservation and/or Sustainability related focus.
  • Excellent communication skills in writing and conversation, preferably a with track-record of developing and managing communications with external partners.
  • Fluency in written and spoken English and Spanish required.
  • Availability to travel within the USA, and Ecuador.
  • Prior experience in an international, cross-cultural work environment is preferred.
  • Pro-active, dynamic, creative, organized, and independent.
  • Master’s Degree (Finance, Business, NGO management, Ecology, Eco-Tourism, etc).

Location, Work Hours & Benefits
The Donor Steward is based in the United States. The work is remote and will involve frequent travel and longer term stays in Ecuador to work at Jocotoco’s headquarters in Quito, and will include field visits to the 15 reserves.

As a key representative of Jocotoco in North America, it will also involve domestic travel (e.g. relevant conferences, visits to donors, and fundraising events).

Work week is 40 hours, typically 8:30am to 4:30pm but can be filled somewhat flexibly, in consultation with the team in Ecuador. (Ecuador is in the same time zone as U.S. Central Time during DST and U.S. Eastern Time the rest of the year).

Salary will depend on qualifications and proven experience. Jocotoco will contribute to benefits and healthcare.
