YOUR OPPORTUNITY
As the Donor Relations Manager, you will play an integral role in developing and strengthening our relationships with individual mid-level, major, and planned giving donors alongside the Donor Relations team. You will be accountable for leading Donor Relations team projects and processes, database reporting and analytics, and supporting the interests of our Mended Heart Society ($500+ annual) and Legacy Society (planned giving) donors. This position reports directly to the Director of Donor Relations and manages the Development and Engagement Associate.
This is a full-time, remote position. This position requires occasional domestic travel, which is equivalent to approximately 2-4 trips per year. We are only able to consider applicants who reside in the United States and possess United States work authorization.

CORE RESPONSIBILITIES
- Management
- Oversee the Donor Relations team’s use of Asana and manage various team Asana projects to ensure the team is informed and empowered to cultivate, solicit, and steward individual donors.
- Collaborate with various programs and communications teams to curate content for and draft regularly scheduled donor updates including quarterly impact reports, the annual report, and a bi-monthly e-newsletter from the President.
- Manage the Development and Engagement Associate and work with them to ensure efficient and accurate Donor Relations team operations, including gift acknowledgements and receipts, telephone and email inquiries from donors, and broadcast emails to Mended Heart Society and Legacy Society donors.
- Develop and improve resources that inform donors of the impact of their gifts and help them feel connected to The Humane League’s mission.
- Monitor important deadlines and dates in grant agreements and bequest agreements to ensure any reporting or signatory requirements are met accurately and on time.
- Work with the Director of Donor Relations to identify, develop and implement new systems and programs to acknowledge, recognize, and report progress to our Mended Heart Society and Legacy Society donors.
- Develop and document standard operating procedures to align the team on effective internal practices.
- Donor Engagement and Stewardship
- Lead the development of a centralized stewardship plan for planned giving donors.
- Write content for donor-facing materials such as thank you letters, case statements, impact reports, and programmatic updates.
- Stay current on THL’s programs and victories to identify compelling opportunities for programmatic updates such as specialized reports or insider updates to share with donors.
- Communicate with Mended Heart Society ($500+ annual giving) and Legacy Society (planned giving) donors via phone, email, or postal mail as needed to thank them, welcome them, share reports, verify information, or respond to general questions.
- Support the donor relationship managers as needed with their requests for specialized touch points, updates, and projects that will deepen their relationships with our Mended Heart Society and Legacy Society donors.
- Reporting and Analysis
- Provide tracking reports for donor segments, points of contact, moves management, etc. to the Director of Donor Relations to ensure that all Mended Heart Society and Legacy Society donors are receiving regular touches and updates from their relationship manager.
- Contribute to the planning, analyses, development, and implementation of processes to ensure donors are glad they gave and want to continue supporting The Humane League.
- Become proficient with the CRM database, learn how to build custom reports, pull data, and support the Director of Donor Relations in achieving the team’s maximal usage of the donor database.
- Monitor and support stewardship efforts for major donors and planned giving donors by regularly evaluating relational data.
- Other duties as assigned
REQUIRED SKILLS
- 3+ years of experience with inter-departmental project management
- Experience communicating one-on-one with donors or customers to ensure their positive experience with your organization
- Outstanding organizational skills with a high level of attention to detail and deadlines, and a willingness to hold people accountable to ensure the timely completion of projects
- Experience with relational databases (e.g. EveryAction), Asana, spreadsheets, Google Docs, and Slack or a proven ability to learn new technologies and systems
- Demonstrated experience with developing and writing compelling donor communications and updates
- Background or demonstrated interest in farmed animal welfare
- Availability to work night and weekend hours as needed, occasionally throughout the year during peak event times
Starting salary $69,700 or salary to commensurate with experience.
