Full-Time Diversity Equity Inclusion Data Analyst

Under the direction of the SR. Director of Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (ODEI), the Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Data Analyst will have the principal responsibility for collecting, extracting, managing, reporting, and analyzing clinical, administrative, quality, safety, and experience data in support of BH Clinical and Community Health Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion performance improvement, regulatory, and operational activities with a focus across the BH enterprise. They will also support various external data initiatives focused on supporting community, and stakeholder needs regionally, such as the Community Health Needs Assessment (CHNA).

In addition, the DEI Data Analyst will serve as a liaison between Quality and Safety, Information & Technology, Clinical Services, the Center for Analytics, Population Health, Human Resources, and Patient Experience /Relations to assist in the development and functionality of the Enterprise Data Warehouse for collection and stratification of needed clinical and community health equity, diversity, and inclusion data and information for advancement in the areas of health equity and inclusion.

They will collaboratively partner with department leaders to optimize health equity data collection systems and reporting throughout all BH sites, including BMC, Regional Hospitals (including Baystate Franklin, Noble, and Wing), Offices of Public Health and Community Benefits, and with external partners (including HNE, BeHealthy Partnership, Public Health Institute of Western Massachusetts, etc.).

The Data Analyst will Coordinate and manage the health equity, diversity, and inclusion data review process, including initial analysis of submitted data from Baystate Health clinical units/departments. Additionally, they will oversee the analysis of data submitted by Baystate Health clinical units/departments charged with the technical collection of data/reporting,  identify trends and opportunities for improvement through data analysis, and prepare. Serve as a subject matter expert (SME) in data management and analysis for various enterprise-wide initiatives focused on health equity and inclusion, including (but not limited to): REaLD, SOGI, Health-Related Needs, Disability, Social Determinants of Health, Healthcare Equality Index (HEI) and Workforce data assessment.

1) Manage and create enterprise-wide processes that support data collection, implementation, analysis, and distribution of reports for selected initiatives monthly (health equity, D&I, workforce, etc). Serve on the Health Equity Governance Steering Group to support the development of systems and platforms for measurement, reporting, analysis, and improvement of enterprise-wide health equity data/activities.

2) Lead and facilitate improvement area identification and opportunity analysis. Facilitate discussions with key stakeholders focused on data collection, measurement, and stratification to ensure areas of focus will have a direct impact on organizational and departmental measures and the overall advancement of DEI strategic objectives of Baystate Health.

3) Co-lead process and ensure adherence to current health equity regulatory standards documentation and reporting requirements for Joint Commission, CMS, and MA 1115 Waiver Program (as required by regulatory and organizational standards) focused specifically on health equity and disparities in the care of patients. Participate in all health equity and quality measurement and benchmark activities of BH (or externally) as appropriate. Remains abreast of significant changes within data requirements within standards.

4) Provide coaching and mentoring to teams, process owners, and individuals through the use of defined tools and techniques that will help realize the gains associated with process improvements in health equity, diversity, and inclusion.

5) Designs a platform for collecting, organizing, and presenting data from diverse sources to produce meaningful preliminary reports for Baystate Health Office of Diversity, Equity, and Diversity teams/leaders. Builds dashboards and data reporting for internal and external reporting that align with project, department, and enterprise requirements/needs (across domains of DEI, public health, community benefits, and workforce).

6) Develop effective working relationships with key organizational leaders, individuals, and staff integral to data reporting and improvement at Baystate Health and within the community. Serve as a liaison to Performance Improvement teams and work with physicians, nurses, and other personnel to manage health equity, diversity & inclusion data review and analysis. Serve as the divisional liaison between the hospital’s Quality Division, Regulatory, Population Health, Finance/healthcare operations, Department of Nursing and Medicine, Human Resources, and Baystate Health System (BHS) Information Services (I&T) in matters related to healthcare equity, diversity, and inclusion. Partner collaboratively with Human Resource Department leaders and utilize organizational tools (such as Workday/VIBE, Patient Engagement Reporting, etc) to ensure ongoing review, collection, and analysis of enterprise-wide workforce data focused on equity, inclusion, and diversity.

7) Manages data analysis, preparation, and submission to external reporting agencies, including but not limited to CMS, Joint Commission, EOHHS, Massachusetts Hospital Association, MassHealth, and all others that apply. Reporting, submission, and accuracy have a direct impact on financial outcomes and publicly reported data. Other external reporting focused on community benefits and public health may also be the responsibility of the data Analyst.

8) Attend appropriate in-service education/seminars to improve skills within budgetary constraints. Observe all health and safety requirements. Perform other similar and related duties as required or directed.

Minimally Required Experience:

Three to Five + years’ experience in healthcare data analysis and performance improvement within a complex and dynamic environment (Large corporate, public health, or healthcare environment). Experience in data analysis and assiduous attention to detail. Proven ability to collaborate on initiatives focused on healthcare disparities, social determinants of health, and diversity & inclusion. Experience in designing, planning, and monitoring initiatives, working within teams/leaders across various departments. Experience in managing and reporting of data for external regulatory and governing bodies, as well as departments and leaders internal to an organization. Demonstrable skills in executing deliverables to achieve strategic goals and objectives, which promote the organization and its mission

Preferred Experience:

Statistics, epidemiology, public health, or healthcare experience is preferred.

Skills/Competencies:

Must have excellent analytical skills. Superb communication skills, both written and verbal. Demonstrated change agent, self-starter, and team player who possesses substantial interpersonal skills. Able to work independently and handle multiple priorities. Capable of leading change and challenging the status quo while working diplomatically to keep stakeholders engaged. Understand the context of assignments and tasks and is able to be flexible and adapt to changing roles and priorities. The individual should have experience in independent project management, efficiency, and an understanding of the principles surrounding data analysis, health equity, performance improvement, quality of care, outcomes measurement, and analysis. Proficient with the use of computers including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and MIDAS preferred.

What you need to know:

Full-time – Monday through Friday. This will be a remote-hybrid opportunity, which means weekly scheduled days in the office and some remote days.
