Primary Purpose:
Maintain electric distribution system to assure continuity of service, prepare, check, and direct orders for electric distribution system switching operations and controls; operate electric supervisory control devices; perform substation switching; direct service restoration activities; maintain records and operating diagrams; document system operating map updates; prepare reports; perform other related duties as assigned or required.
Required Qualifications:
- A minimum of 18 months experience as a Transmission or Distribution System Operator or relatable military/electric utility experience required.
- Must have good safety habits.
- Must demonstrate the ability to collaborate and work in a team environment.
- Must understand basic electrical circuits involving voltage, current and power.
- Some knowledge of switching authorization procedures and steps required for the issuance of switching authorizations.
- Must demonstrate skills to perform clear and concise radio/phone communication with field personnel to include Trouble Shooters, Line Crews, Substation Electricians, & Contractors.
- Must be proficient in reading System Operating Diagrams, control and protection notes, GIS based paper and computer distribution circuit maps, and technical operating procedures.
- Must have demonstrated the ability to absorb formal training and schooling.
- Must have typing ability and be able to work with basic PC software (email, internet, Microsoft office applications).
- Must be able to distinguish red, blue and green colors.
- Must have good attendance record.
- Must be willing to work shift work including weekend and holiday shifts.
- Must have a California Driver’s License.
- Must have ability to perform mathematical calculations.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Desired knowledge of construction and apparatus for transmission and distribution lines and substation
- Preferred knowledge and use of an integrated outage management system.
- Desired experience performing real time switching through a remote SCADA system.
- Desired experience in trouble shooting unplanned outages from distribution substation down to the customer’s electric service.
- Preferred experience and understanding of energizing new construction/new equipment.
- Highly desired experience in operating in different conditions such as weather storms, fire conditions, and normal operating conditions.
- Desired knowledge of restoration procedure of high voltage lines after service has been interrupted.
This is a union represented position, represented by IBEW 465.
