Full-Time Director, Product Manager
Job Description
THE ROLE
The Director, Product Manager, is a key member of Teach For America’s Digital Products team, focusing on one of Teach For America’s participant-facing digital products. The focus of the role is to maximize the value of that digital product by creating an impact-driven vision and roadmap and to continually introduce features and functionality to optimize the product. As Director, Product Manager, you will be responsible for defining Key Performance Indicators for the product (alongside the User Experience and Analytics teams), and you’ll work with IT Business Analysts (BAs) and developers to build and continuously improve the product.
You will be deeply connected to the Information Technology team, user experience designers, and should be comfortable communicating across all disciplines resulting in the execution of the work in your roadmap. You’ll be a key player in an Agile Scrum and have a role in each step of the development process. You’ll continually prioritize the backlog, meet with stakeholders to address the impacts of the product and you’ll work hand in hand with a Business Analyst to make sure the stories that you’ve written can be executed by the development team. You’ll collaborate with the scrum team to ensure requirements are met. You’ll help resolve blockers, and make sure that product demo meetings are held for stakeholders to understand new features.
The work you do will be central to how Teach For America achieves its powerful mission to transform society through educational reform. You will report to the Senior Managing Director of Product Management and collaborate closely with other product managers, the Technology Team, and key business partners.
THE PERSON
Specific Responsibilities Include:
Product Management
Intake and ideation for products: you’ll meet regularly with stakeholders to share/understand the problems you are trying to solve or ideas that you have to drive impact (25%).
Idea-analysis and road-mapping: you determine the value of each idea, break down ideas into themes and priorities and sequence the roadmap of future work. (25%)
Define measures of success: in collaboration with analytics and UX specialists, you’ll define how we’ll know if the product is successful. (10%)
Drive kickoff meetings: you’ll build shared understanding around the opportunity and problem to solve. You’ll help refine initial user experience, copywriting, & development requirements as a group. (10%)
Draft sprint plans: Alongside a Business Analyst, you’ll review product designs developed by our UX team (from wireframes to high fidelity mockups), and identify how to break features and user flows into workable chunks and prioritize them into sprints. (10%)
Validate the team’s work: Attend sprint demos and work with BAs to make sure that the product features are delivered to specification. (10%)
Plan continuous improvement: You’ll review user data related to functionality and share wins and opportunities to improve the product alongside data analysts and the User Experience team. (10%)
THE MUST HAVES
Prior Experience:
4-7 years of digital Product Management experience in a large, complex organization
Experience working with both business and IT stakeholders
Experience working with epic, user story, feature, and task tracking software for purposes of software development
A/B testing experience preferred
Familiarity with analytics tools like Google Analytics, Power BI, and DataStudio preferred
Work Demands:
National travel for in-person meetings as needed; some weekend and evening work expected.
Skills:
A self-starter, ability to self organize, lead and be led and ask for help when you need it
Strong analytical and data skills
Strong stakeholder-management skills with the ability to influence, advise, mediate, and control scope
A strong understanding of the agile software development methodology

ABOUT THE TEAM
Our Product Management team is charged with bringing to life Teach For America’s mission and the collective impact of our network through Digital Products. Our team charge is to define the core purpose, user base, needs, product functions, success criteria and foundational visions of our participant-facing products. We work with clients and the UX team, to deliver blueprints and roadmaps to IT. We then collaboratively build the products with IT and continuously improve and iterate on the products over time.
Our winning aspiration is that our mission is only possible through a suite of high quality, specialized digital applications designed for critical moments during each participant journey stage (from applying, to your the day of school, through becoming an alum and beyond).
We partner closely with program teams to define and launch digital products that exponentially increase the impact of our program teams and participants.
