Full-Time Director, Portfolio Communications

Summary

The Director, Portfolio/Corporate Communications will report to the Sr. Director, Communications, with broad capabilities across the spectrum of communications in support of Mallinckrodt portfolio and corporate media interests.  This individual will be responsible for creating, driving and managing impactful communications in support of the Specialty Brands organizations’ visions and key strategic priorities related to select currently marketed and development products. These responsibilities will include, but not be limited to, strategic counsel, launch planning, external promotional activities through proactive media relations, issues management preparation, field sales and customer communications, and related broader employee  communications.  In addition, this position will also be responsible for certain broader key initiatives that may include broad media relations; communications, messaging, and positioning development support for patient advocacy programs and aligned with government affairs activities; company/product reputation, crisis communications and issues management, and other projects and general communications support in connection with other initiatives as assigned.

Essential Functions
Creates, drives and manages all internal and external communications (excluding marketing collateral) for assigned products (both approved and pipeline), functions and/or businesses, with the goal of increasing internal and external engagement and achieving alignment with the organizational strategies and objectives, collaborating with other members of the Communications department as necessary.
Collaborates with key commercial team and other functional colleagues to achieve the above  goals, including development and implementation of full-spectrum communication plans that may include key message development, and articulation of those messages through vehicles such as press releases, social media posts, employee/customer communications, question and answer documents (Q&As) and other related materials as applicable, including tracking the success of product launch and ongoing awareness campaigns with all relevant stakeholders.
Provides communications counsel and change management support to commercial and S&T leadership and other functions as needed to enhance current programs and communications initiatives.
Works as an integral part of assigned commercial and other functional teams though frequent communications and meetings with leaders, and attending off-site strategy and sales meetings.
Addresses crises and issues as needed and assigned, which may include product supply concerns, adverse events, matters of litigation or intellectual property, etc., to ensure minimal company reputational harm and that the external and internal communication needs are met in a timely manner.
Plays integral role in assigned patient advocacy and government relations initiatives by providing communications support related to key messages, company positioning, Q&A and other materials.
Ensures alignment with corporate-level messaging across all projects.
Participates in selection and management of external public relations and other communications resources, including budget responsibility.

DEPARTMENT SPECIFIC/NON-ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
Exceptional writing ability, editor, presenter and proofreader
Demonstrated track record of success developing and implementing impactful communication programs that drive engagement
Experience in/knowledge of professional social media utilization
Demonstrates exceptional proactive internal and external client service
Ability to manage multiple projects toward timely completion
Highly developed capacity for working within teams
Possesses strong aptitude to be self-directed and successfully manage responsibilities without continuous supervision.

Minimum Requirements

Education:  Bachelor’s degree in communications or a related field required
Experience: A minimum of 8 years’ experience required in a corporate communications or related role.
Competencies:

Strong planning, writing and verbal communications skills, and familiarity with/ability to comprehend complex scientific language and concepts.
Communications generalist with proven capabilities in media relations, along with employee and customer communication expertise.
Ability to solve complex problems with ingenuity and innovation.
Strong proficiency in Microsoft Office products
Other Skills:
Excellent team player
Ability to travel both domestically required, and possibly internationally.

Organizational Relationship/Scope:

Reporting to the Sr. Director Communications, this position will collaborate closely with key stakeholders across Mallinckrodt Pharmaceuticals.

Working Conditions:

Normal office conditions, some travel required.
