Full-Time DIRECTOR – POLICY, ADVOCACY AND PARTNERSHIPS

ABOUT THIS ROLE

The Director – Policy, Advocacy, and Partnerships will provide technical support to Country Programs on activities of regional, national, or subnational influence to assist in the improvement of WASH policies towards achieving SDG 6. In this role, you will help ensure that expanding and improving services is done with sustainability and equity in mind, while planning for upgrading service quality where needed, and increasing investment in climate resilient infrastructure.  You will use a thorough understanding of Policy, Advocacy, Governance, and Finance best practices to develop and adapt influence strategies at the national level to help drive National Impact. You will also support Country Programs to connect their influence agendas to Regional and Global Influence Agendas, in collaboration with One For All partners.

 

IN THIS ROLE YOU WILL

Technical Support and Strategic Direction to Country Programs: 

  • Provide technical assistance to Country Program colleagues using evidence-based advocacy approaches at the global, national, and sub-national level to help promote and implement best practices for equitable and sustainable WASH services, supplies and delivery systems, adequate, predictable, and sustainable financing, enhanced government stewardship, transparency, accountability and engaged and informed civil society.
  • Assist Country Program colleagues to identify key questions to be answered and problems to solve by supporting the use of most appropriate analytic tool(s) and using the results to develop influence in such spheres as policy and legislation, regulation and accountability, and planning building blocks.
  • Support Country Program colleagues in high-level policy dialogue with government stakeholders and partners related to WASH policies for universal coverage.
  • Develop and provide guidance for advocating for policies and legal/regulatory frameworks that support adaptive, absorptive, and transformative policies at the national and sub-national level.
  • Facilitate the replication of successes through development and dissemination of practical applications and lessons learned.
  • Develop, review, and/or prepare models, presentation, manuscripts, reports and briefs for internal and/or government use.
  • Support skill development activities, including knowledge sharing on WASH advocacy and identifying opportunities and platforms where colleagues in County Programs can share experiences and lead working groups.

Sector Influence:  

  • Identify strategic partnerships for Water For People and develop long term relations. Serve as lead point person on organizational partnerships considered most strategic, such as Agenda for Change, Sanitation and Water for All, etc.
  • Collaborate with the Water For People Influence Team members, and Influence staff of One for All to set Influence agenda priorities, ensure consistency and rigor in Influence activities globally and in the Latin America, Africa, and South Asia regions. Contribute to and support country contributions to the regional and global Influence Plans, with a vision for how they can be used to influence external audiences.
  • Guide Water For People’s thought leadership to help drive supportive WASH policies, addressing multiple sectors (e.g. Finance, Education, Health, Agriculture) as needed.
  • Ensure Water For People has a strong external voice in the WASH sector, including direct involvement in high-priority external publications, conferences, webinars and forums.

Revenue generation and Donor Impact support: 

  • Lead WASH Policy and Advocacy funding opportunities that are aligned to Destination 2030 and country priorities.
  • Support Donor Impact team on positioning our WASH work as leading in Policy, Advocacy, Systems Strengthening.
  • Support County Programs on country-led funding opportunities relating to systems strengthening, governance, finance, and Influence.
  • Collaborate with Monitoring, Evaluation, and Learning (MEL) team to support program design and MEL frameworks for awards focused on sector strengthening and financing.
  • Collaborate with Director of Global Monitoring and Strategic Adaptation and members of the Donor Impact team to design and support implementation of conference strategy for organization.
  • Collaborate with the Chief Impact Officer and the Global Leadership Team to lead and coordinate all influence and advocacy activities of the organization.

Management

  • Lead regular Influence and Advocacy Team meetings across all regions.
  • Set goals and priorities and conduct performance reviews with direct reports.

 

YOU WILL EXCEL IN THIS ROLE IF YOU HAVE

  • Bachelor’s Degree in relevant field (public health, economics, public policy administration, international development/studies, etc.) with preference for Master’s Degree, or equivalent work experience.
  • A minimum of 10 years of experience in the design and implementation in one or more areas: financing, governance, policy development and implementation, civil society organization, engagement and strengthening, evidence generation.
  • Experience developing and implementing advocacy strategies, including using and creating advocacy tools; conducting, facilitating, and drafting advocacy plans; and writing policy documents.
  • Fluency in English with excellent oral, written and presentation communication skills.
  • Proven record of fostering collaboration and innovation to achieve program goals, meet program milestones, and produce quality program results.
  • Demonstrated leadership, versatility, and integrity.
  • Ability to work with a diverse global team of business professionals and water and sanitation technologists.

BONUS POINTS IF YOU HAVE

  • Proficiency in Spanish.
  • Experience with Gender Equality and Social Inclusion (GESI) integration in project implementation.

MORE ABOUT THIS ROLE

  • Ability to travel up to 15% of the time domestically and internationally to low- and middle-income countries where travel is rugged.
  • This position has the option to work from an office or remotely in one of the following countries where Water For People is present: Bolivia, Guatemala, Honduras, India, Malawi, Peru, Rwanda, Uganda, Tanzania, the United Kingdom, or the United States.
  • Water For People will seek candidates from the countries listed above and any state in the US except for: NY, NJ, WA, VT, and CA. You must be a citizen or legally authorized to work in the country you live in.
  • Ability to work outside regular business hours to meet with personnel located in other time zones.
  • Open office environment if choosing to work from the Denver Office

Salary Range:

Anticipated salary range: 90,000 – 130,000 for US candidates only. (If based outside the US an equivalent country market – based salary will be determined)

 

Actual salary will be determined based on experience and other job-related factors.
