Bard High School Early College (BHSEC) Manhattan, a partnership between Bard College and the New York City Department of Education (NYDOE), invites applications for a full-time position as a Center for Learning and Writing Director.
The Center for Learning and Writing (CLAW) Director’s responsibilities will include:
- Providing individual student support in writing in all academic disciplines and at all grade levels, including the writing of academic essays and lab reports
- Assisting students with college application essays
- Designing and delivering workshops on learning strategies and writing
- Training, scheduling and evaluating peer tutors in all academic areas
- Teaching 1-credit pedagogy practicum associated with peer writing tutoring
- Teach a 3-credit literature class in our Seminar Sequence
- Working closely with faculty members to monitor and support students who are struggling academically
- Recruiting and scheduling faculty members for open subject-specific tutoring hours
- Working with faculty to integrate peer tutoring into their classrooms
- Structuring and supervising general study periods
- Maintaining records of student contact hours
- Providing additional administrative support as needed.
The position offers the opportunity to work in a school that is an innovative model in secondary and post-secondary education as a member of a dedicated faculty, most of whom hold terminal degrees in their fields. Salary is competitive, commensurate with experience.
Start Date: September 2023
Compensation: The salary range is $55,000- $70,000 per year and is commensurate with experience

Qualifications
The Center for Learning and Writing Director’s qualifications include:
- A. or M.A.T. in writing-intensive academic concentration
- Classroom experience in writing instruction
- Experience and/or interest in working with all adolescents, including working with special education students
- Demonstrated commitment to fostering equity in education and supporting and advocating for historically marginalized students
- Strong organizational and communication skills
- Commitment to early college programs
