POSITION DESCRIPTION
The Director of Programs is responsible for leading the successful implementation of PowerMyLearning’s programs in Los Angeles in order to increase student achievement at all partner schools. This includes direct work with families, teachers, and students in Title 1 schools.
The Director of Programs serves as a senior leader on PowerMyLearning’s Los Angeles team. This position manages full-time staff and contractors responsible for the implementation of our program. The Director of Programs is responsible for maintaining partnerships with schools, districts, charter management organizations (CMOs), and community organizations (such as our partnership with the Los Angeles Public Library). Additionally, the Director of Programs will support national program development by collaborating with PowerMyLearning’s regional and national teams.
This position reports to the Executive Director, Los Angeles.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
Lead PowerMyLearning Programs to Yield Outstanding Results
- Build and maintain strong relationships with PowerMyLearning’s partner schools, school leaders, district/CMO leaders, and leaders of other partner organizations
- Lead teams responsible for PowerMyLearning’s direct work with families, students, and teachers
- Support and manage teams to ensure organizational program components are implemented with a high level of quality, fidelity and timeliness
- Provide input to organizational Program Development team on strategic direction and program development based on quantitative and qualitative data from program implementations
- Articulate the program vision and value to internal and external stakeholders
Ensure a High-Performing Program Team
- Develop a strong culture based on PowerMyLearning’s Cultural Values
- Build a strong, outcomes-focused performance culture within the program team
- Cultivate, hire, and manage a high-performing team to achieve ambitious goals
- Manage individual team members’ performance: ensure training and coaching necessary to perform basic job duties; give recognition and direct constructive feedback; hold regular meetings with team members to support their performance; perform annual performance reviews; and maintain documentation as per PowerMyLearning standards
- Manage up by being proactive and keeping manager informed of changing priorities and challenges
Support Sustainability
- Serve as a subject-matter expert to assist PowerMyLearning’s Growth Team with recruitment of new partner schools and organizations
- Work with PowerMyLearning’s Growth Team to ensure current partner schools renew their partnerships with PowerMyLearning
- Leverage relationships with schools and school district staff to ensure that site visits with funders and other partners showcase the best of our work
- In conjunction with the Executive Director, help prepare for and attend meetings with board members, funders and potential funders as needed
- Lead direct reports to cultivate school-based PowerMyLearning champions who are excited to help the organization further its mission by speaking about the positive impact of our partnership
- Leverage direct reports to help support short- and long-term sustainability objectives
- Gather and accurately report program data and assist in interpreting those data for funders and our external stakeholders
- Understand and communicate the mission and theory of change to staff, clients, funders, and other stakeholders
Other duties as necessary, including attendance at Saturday and evening program events as needed during the school year with comp time to be used the following week
CANDIDATE QUALIFICATIONS
Required:
- Passion for PowerMyLearning’s mission
- At least 2 years of experience in program management
- At least 3 years of people management experience of full-time staff
- Experience working in Title 1 schools and/or districts
- At least 2 years of experience as a classroom teacher
- At least 2 years of experience as an instructional coach or with leading professional development of teachers
- Experience managing external partnerships
- Strong organization and project management skills
- Proven ability to motivate a team to meet high expectations
- Positive attitude and demonstrated capacity to embody PowerMyLearning’s Values
- Capacity to thrive under pressure while working on multiple tasks and projects
- Ability to set priorities for self, team, and peers, and adjust when priorities change
- Ability to manage up effectively
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Expertise with Microsoft Outlook, Word, and Excel
- Bachelor’s degree
Preferred:
- Experience at the district level
- Bilingual in English and Spanish
- Experience working with LAUSD
- Experience with Salesforce CRM

COMPENSATION AND BENEFITS
This position offers a competitive salary of $100,000. PowerMyLearning also offers medical, dental, and vision insurance with an employee contribution.
