Reports to:  Vice President of Marketing and Communications

Location:  Music Center at Strathmore

Available: January 2022

ORGANIZATIONAL OVERVIEW

Strathmore is a nonprofit multi-disciplinary arts center outside Washington, DC with multiple venues, strong community partnerships and robust educational programming. Spotlighting world-class talent and serving as a launch pad for local artists, Strathmore presents nearly 400 accessible and affordable events and exhibitions each year in the Music CenterMansion, on our 16-acre campus, at AMP, and throughout the community.

POSITION SUMMARY STATEMENT

The Director of Marketing serves a critical role in the planning and execution of Strathmore’s marketing and communication efforts. In collaboration with the VP of Marketing and Communications, the Director will plan and coordinate strong, innovative marketing and advertising campaigns for Strathmore performances at three venues and in the community as well as special events, gallery exhibitions, and other initiatives. They will act as the main marketing contact for agencies, artists, partners, and representatives of in-house programs. The Director will oversee the successful and efficient production of institutional branding and marketing materials, ranging from paid advertising in various media to collateral such as sales brochures, newsletters, postcards, flyers, emails, videos, promotional materials, and outdoor displays.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES may include, but are not limited to, the following:

  • Marketing Strategy Responsible for the development and implementation of long- and short-term marketing plans for a variety of events and initiatives. Analyze sales patterns and ROI of marketing initiatives.
  • Schedules and Plans Creates and manages marketing schedules to ensure timely production of advertising collateral and to assist with maintaining coordinated organization-wide communication efforts.
  • Team management Supervises the daily workflow of Marketing Coordinator, Group Sales and Grassroots Marketing Manager, graphic designers, freelance writers, and other contract vendors. Serves as primary liaison with advertising agency and artist marketing management.
  • Creative Direction & Publication Oversight Ensures all Strathmore publications, ads, emails, print materials, and digital assets successfully meet campaign initiatives and represent the Strathmore brand positively and consistently.
  • Advertising Provides input and fine-tunes media buys and placements to maximize efficiency. Responsible for trafficking all advertising between key staff, artist management when necessary, and agency from concept to release.
  • Coordination Works with artist’s teams to plan on-sales and show campaigns. Drives timelines and schedules with marketing staff and other key departments including Programming, Education, Advancement, Finance, and Operations to meet sales objectives and align with external factors and maximize team efforts.
  • Budget Management Oversees marketing and advertising budgets for hundreds of events and initiatives annually, carefully managing and tracking the use of all resource to maximize sales and attendance. Assist with budget tracking and ensuring the timely payment of invoices. Prepare materials for show settlements.
  • Partners Builds and maintains positive relationships with partner organizations, vendors, and marketing partners.

40 hours per week, including some evenings and weekends.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Minimum 7-10 years of experience in marketing
  • BA or equivalent certification
  • History of successful management of marketing campaigns
  • Proven history of managing budgets responsibly
  • Knowledge of DC media market
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Experience driving timelines and coordinating multi-faceted campaigns
  • Exceptional attention to detail and organizational skills
  • Knowledge of advertising, particularly in the digital space
  • Experience with Photoshop, web content management software (Umbraco specifically), or email automation software is a plus
  • Experience or familiarity with Tessitura CRM is a plus
  • Desire to grow, learn, and contribute to a team

STATUS & SALARY

This is an exempt, salaried position. Salary is commensurate with experience, in the range of $70,000-$80,000 annually with a competitive benefits package. All contacts and correspondences will remain confidential.
